A similar alert has been sounded along the course of the west flowing rivers Krishna, Bhima and their tributaries. MAHABLESHWAR PANCHGANI MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT AND FORESTS NOTIFICATION NEW DELHI, 17th January, 2001 S.O 52(E).– Whereas a notification under sub section (1) and clause (v) of sub section (2) of Section 3 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, inviting objection or suggestion against the notification notifying the Mahableshwar Panchgani as an Eco sensitive region and imposing restriction on industries, operations, processes and other developmental activities in the region which have detrimental effect on the environment was published in S.O. No. 693(E) dated the 25th July, 2000; And whereas all objections or/and suggestions received have been duly considered by the Central Government Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (d) of sub-rule (3) of rule 5 of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, and all other powers vesting in its behalf, the Central Government hereby notify the Mahableshwar Panchgani Region (as defined in the Government of Maharashtra notification of 29th April, 1983 as an Eco Sensitive Zone. (Copy attached as Annexure). The Region shall include the entire area within the boundaries of the Mahableshwar Tehsil and the villages of Bondarwadi, Bhuteghar, Danwali, Taloshi and Umbri of Jaoli Tehsil of the Satara District in the Maharashtra state. 1. All activities in the forests (both within and outside municipal areas) shall be governed by the provisions of the Indian Forests Act, 1927 (16 of 1927) and Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 (69 of 1980). All activities in the sanctuaries and national parks shall be governed by the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (53 of 1972). -

It is hill station with one of few evergreen forests of India. The Entire area is in Sahyadri hills and is rich in flora & fauna. Mahabaleshwar is birth place of five Rivers namely Krishna, Koyana, Venna, Gayatri and Savitri. The High, steep-mountainous and hills are of great attraction for the tourist in India. Mahabaleshwar has been one of the favourite tourist locations in India due to its rich environmental importance, its climate, and scenic beauty of the hills. Pratapgad Fort is a large fort located in Satara district, in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. Significant as the site of the Battle of Pratapgad in Maratha Empire, the fort is now a popular tourist destination. Travel & Tourism, the World Largest industry, is a key driver of economic growth; given the background the development of appropriate infrastructure facilities for promoting tourism would go a long way in developing the State's economy. At Present nearly 18 lakh passengers per year visit the Hill station Mahabaleshwar. Hardly 5% of the above Tourist visits the Pratapgad Fort. The road Distance is about 24 kms., and passes through hilly area, Ghats section. The Availability of tourist buses is rare and tourist has to depend on the Tourist car for the same. M/s. Temples & Pilgrim centres (in Satara District) Kuraneshwar (Khinditil anapati) Temple of Lord Ganesh and Lord Shiva, situated on Old Satara-Kolhapur road, 1 km away from Satara City. It is a famous historical temple of 'Swyambhu Ganesh', the 'Gram daivat' of Satara. Kuraneshwar Ganapati Yevateshwar Temple This temple is of Lord Shiva. It is very ancient and has historical references. On the day of 'Mahashivratri' and in 'Shravan' people visit this temple with great holy spirit. The ghat starts just from the Satara City and temple is situated 5 kms away & is at the height above 2500 feet above sea level. The lush green area from this temple to Kas is fastly growing up as a Tourist Place. Yevateshwar Temple Wai Wai (the Dakshin kashi of India) is situated just 33 kms away from Satara. It is famous for its temples & ghats. "Maha Ganpati Temple" is here which is worshipped by many holy men & women all over the state. It is the important Pilgrim & Cultural Centre of Maharashtra. The office of Marathi Encyclopedia (Vishwa Kosha) is here. There is a Dam across the Kirishna River at Dhom just 9 KM away from Wai. Maha Ganapati Shikhar Shinganapur Very ancient temple of lord 'Shiva' on the hill called Shikhar Shingnapur is about 89 Km from Satara on Satara- Akluj road. Huge gathering of devotees on eve of 'Mahashivratri took place here every year. It has many historical references about visit of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj . Recent sightings of Sri Lankan Frogmouth Batrachostomus moniliger in Northern Western Ghats between Kolhapur and Mumbai, India Amit Sayyed1 and Anil Mahabal2 The Sri Lankan Frogmouth Batrachostomus moniliger (Aves: Caprimulgiformes: Podargidae) is a bird with large head, wide gape and broad, swollen, hooked bill with eyes facing forward. It is resident and locally common in dense evergreen forest, secondary forest and cane brakes; but usually avoids plantations and disturbed forest (Ali & Ripley 1987, Rasmussen & Anderton 2012).
