SPORTS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2016 Brazil thrash archrivals Argentina Brazil, Uruguay march towards 2018 MONTEVIDEO: Brazil thrashed arch-rivals Argentina to tight- en their grip on South America’s 2018 World Cup qualification campaign on Thursday as Uruguay maintained their push towards the finals with a hard-fought defeat of Ecuador. Barcelona superstar Neymar outshone club-mate Lionel Messi with his 50th international goal for Brazil in Belo Horizonte as the five-time World Cup winners romped to a 3-0 win in the Estadio Mineirao. It was a sweet return to the venue for Brazil, who were humiliated 7-1 at the same ground by Germany in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup. Neymar’s landmark strike was sandwiched by a spectacular effort from Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and a second-half finish from China-based midfielder Paulinho. The win was a remarkable fifth consecutive qualifying victory under the reign of new coach Tite, who took over following the sacking of Dunga in June after Brazil’s Copa America Centenario debacle, when they failed to advance from the group stage. Brazil now have 24 points from 11 games, one clear of second-placed Uruguay who have 23 points. The Brazilians are six points clear of third-placed Colombia and seven points clear of Ecuador and Chile, who are level on 17 points after 11 games. Argentina meanwhile are languish- ing outside the qualifying places in sixth with 16 points. The two-time world champions-who have taken just two points from their past four qualifiers-now face a crucial game at home to Colombia next Tuesday which they must win to avoid falling further off the pace.

BSc-Thesis – BMO Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie Name Student: Mylan Pouwels Registration Number: 991110669120 University: Wageningen University & Research (WUR) Study: BBC (Business) Thesis Mentor: Jos Bijman Date: 1-23-2020 Chair Group: BMO Course Code: YSS-81812 Foreword From an early age I already like football. I like it to play football by myself, to watch it on television, but also to read articles about football. The opportunity to combine my love for football with a scientific research for my Bachelor Thesis, could not be better for me. During an orientating conversation about the topic for my Bachelor Thesis with my thesis mentor Jos Bijman, I mentioned that I was always interested in the management strategies of organizations. What kind of choices an organization makes, what kind of resources an organization uses, what an organization wants to achieve and its performances. Following closely this process in large organizations is something I like to do in my leisure time. My thesis mentor Jos Bijman asked for my hobbies and he mentioned that there was a possibility to combine my interests in the management strategies of organizations with my main hobby football. In this way the topic Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie was created. The Bachelor Thesis Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie is executed in a qualitative research, using a literature study. This Thesis is written in the context of my graduation of the study Business-and Consumer Studies (specialization Business) at the Wageningen University and Research. From October 28 2019 until January 23 I have been working on the research and writing of my Thesis.

  • Misuse of Interpol's Red Notices and Impact on Human Rights
STUDY Requested by the DROI committee Misuse of Interpol’s Red Notices and impact on human rights – recent developments Policy Department for External Relations Directorate General for External Policies of the Union PE 603.472 - January 2019 EN DIRECTORATE-GENERAL FOR EXTERNAL POLICIES POLICY DEPARTMENT STUDY Misuse of Interpol’s Red Notices and impact on human rights – recent developments ABSTRACT International organisations continue to report the abuse by some states of Interpol’s Notice System to persecute national human rights defenders, civil society activists and critical journalists in violation of international standards of human rights. Available case studies, written reports and interviews with organisations working in the field confirm the reported abuses. Recent Interpol reforms have made significant impact on safeguarding individuals both substantially and procedurally. Nevertheless, and especially considering the significant increase in the number of Notices and Diffusions in the Interpol system, reforms remain to be fully implemented and transparency and enforcement mechanisms continue to leave room for improvement. Taking as a point of departure the responses from the EU institutions and bodies, and EU Member States, the study recommends taking further steps for Interpol to ensure full implementation of recent reforms, a fully transparent system and consistent legal and procedural safeguards for individuals in the Interpol Notice System. OTHER FACETS NEWS AND VIEWS ON THE INTERNATIONAL EFFORT TO END CONFLICT DIAMONDS Number 25 October 2007 “LAND GRABBING AND LAND REFORM” DIAMONDS, RUBBER AND FORESTS IN THE NEW LIBERIA A new report released in August by Partnership Africa Canada in Ottawa, and Green Advocates in Monrovia spells out the huge challenges facing the new government of Liberia following a decade and a half of brutal civil war, war fuelled mainly by looted natural resources. Liberia, the report says, is a country blessed with natural resources. Despite its vast storehouse of natural wealth, however – or because of it – Liberia remains one of the poorest and least developed places on earth, with an average per capita income of US$152 per annum, 40% of the adult population illiterate, and life expectancy at birth of under 40 years. “Liberia,” says the report’s author, Shawn Blore, “is a darkly resplendent example of the resource curse, the phenomenon by which countries blessed with natural resources grow more slowly, stay poorer and offer less to their people than their resource-poor neighbours.” The mechanisms driving this counterintuitive situation include the volatility of revenues from the natural resource sector, currency appreciation that renders non-resource sectors uncompetitive, and the political corruption that often results from the continuous inflow of windfall revenue. Widespread public anger at the mismanagement of the country’s natural resources was one of the causes of the Liberian civil war. According to Alfred Brownell, Executive Director of Green Advocates, “Successive Liberian governments became more and more dependent on taxes paid by multinational companies instead of by their own citizens.
