NAAA Prepares Athletes for 2012 London Olympics To All Media From Trevor James NAAA PRO 752-5327 The National Association for Athletics Administrations is preparing top T&T Athletes for the 2012 London Olympics and is sending a contingent to compete at the 118th PENN Relays in Pennsylvania USA as part of the plan. The PENN Relays gets on the way this week where the Trinidad and Tobago 4x400 men will compete in the USA vs The World Men on Saturday. Trinidad and Tobago 4x100 women will come up against Bahamas, Jamaica and USA Red and Blue in the USA vs The World Women. In the USA vs The World Men 4x100, Trinidad and Tobago would compete with the likes of Jamaica, Bahamas, Canada Red and Canada Black and the USA Red and USA Blue teams. PENN Relays is known as the world's largest and oldest relay carnival and is held on Penn's home track, University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia every year. The USA vs The World Championships category will be held on Saturday 28th April 2012. The TT men 4x100 will start in action at 12:55pm to follow with the women 4x100 at 1:15pm and the men 4x400 at 2:30pm. All action can be seen live online. The team departs on Thursday 26th April 2012 on American Airlines Flight 1668 at 2:40pm. It’s not where you start; it’s where you are going! Good is the enemy of great! Some key words which resonated in your theme – our route is excellence; destination is success! 2018 is now behind us! It was a building block year with the Commonwealth Games, the Youth Olympic Games and the Central American Games. Michelle Lee Ahye distinguished herself and was our 2018 Sportswoman of the Year. Jereem Richards, with courage and flair, captured the Sportsman of the Year award. Other athletes distinguished themselves this evening. Let’s recog- nise their achievements in 2018. But colleagues 2018 is over! This is 2019 – the beginning of a new year. We are 360 days away from a new decade - the 2020s. This must be our decade! It is time to reset! Reset dreams! Reset strategy! Recalibrate approaches for athletes for whom 2018 was unsatisfactory or merely average. Reset for coaches whose charges did not achieve their aspirations! Merely repeating the same training, nutritional habits and strategy will not yield improvement. Let 2019 be a time for vision and action! Vision without action is day dreaming. Action without vision is passing time. As a Small Island Developing State, our ability to navigate the journey of nationhood has always depended on our creativity, our willingness to work hard and our ability to stand firm together as a nation. In order to continue on the path of growth and development, we the people are mandated to foster a strong patriotism as well as our own capacity to take full advantage of opportunities through clear focus, grit and determination. Despite our challenges, I believe that Trinidad and Tobago continues to live up to the promise and potential we demonstrated in 1962 and we can ill-afford to falter now. We must strengthen our democratic institutions and implement policies that are tailored to our specific conditions and developmental objectives. In so doing, we will increase our chances of success exponentially. Earlier this month, the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago received an incredible pre – Independence Day gift. We witnessed our fantastic four – Jarrin Solomon, Jareem Richards, Machel Cedenio and Lalonde Gordon – bring home our country’s first ever gold medal in the 4×400 metres relay event at the recently concluded IAAF World Championships in London, England. A few days earlier, Jareem Richards had made his mark in the 200m event claiming a bronze medal for the country.

This is where it grew up. From the discoveries of tar and pitch centuries ago, to the establishment of oil wells and offshore platforms, to the presence of large entities such as the LABIDCO Industrial Estate, this land has always featured prominently in our energy history. La Brea saw the first pitch-paved roads in the country, the first pumping jacks, and the first foreign energy investors. Even when you set aside the enormous role La Brea has played in the growth of our energy industry, there is still much more to be said. La Brea was a giant in our agricultural industry, with its cocoa, coconut and sugar cane industries contributing to the wealth of the area since the 1800s. Some of the older residents can tell you of the glamour days of La Brea, of the fancy parties held in Brighton, which people of means would sail from Port of Spain, across the Gulf, to attend. Its unique geology and significant archaeological finds have brought international recognition to Trinidad. One of La Brea’s most interesting contributions in recent times is the discovery of bacteria in the Pitch Lake, which may be the closest thing on Earth to 1 microbial life present in the hydrocarbon seas on Saturn's moon, Titan.
