Traditionally, the purposefulness and relevance of a singer-songwriter were defined by something unique in their lyrical acumen, vocal skills and/or guitar or piano accompaniment. In the 1990s this paradigm was tested by the trend towards larger orchestrastion and towards electronic orchestration. In the 2000s it became harder and harder to give purpose and meaning to a body of work mostly relying on the message. Many singer-songwriters of the 2000s belonged to "Generation X" but sang and wrote for members of "Generation Y". Since "Generation Y" was inherently different from all the generations that had preceeded it, it was no surprise that the audience for these singer-songwriters declined. Since the members of "Generation X" were generally desperate to talk about themselves, it was not surprising that the number of such singer- songwriters increased. The net result was an odd disconnect between the musician and her or his target audience. The singer-songwriters of the 2000s generally sounded more "adult" because... they were.

February 21, 2019 For Immediate Releases Marissa Nadler Shares Two New Singles “Poison” (Feat. John Cale) & “If We Make It Through The Summer” Via KRO Records Listen Here "One of the most gorgeous voices in the business" – NPR Music Marissa Nadler shares two new singles, “Poison” (featuring John Cale) and “If We Make It Through The Summer.” Both were written during the time Nadler was working on material that would end up on 2018’s For My Crimes (Sacred Bones/Bella Union). These songs mark one of the first one-off releases on KRO Records – the new label from producers/musicians Justin Raisen, Lawrence Rothman and Yves Rothman. “Sometimes it's best not to know in advance; that's what I continually remind myself about how this duet with legendary songwriter John Cale came together,” says Nadler. “Had I known that Justin and Lawrence would arrange for Cale to sing ‘Poison’ with me before I wrote or recorded it, I cannot be certain I wouldn't have become frozen with hesitations and second-guessing. How do you even start to go about writing a duet with a member of the Velvet Underground? Surely I might have nervously changed the lyric that accidentally namechecks a title of a Velvet Underground song (‘Run Run Run’), at the very least. For me, Cale is one of the most influential rock musicians, remaining admirably hard to Pin down. His aPPearance on this song was a comPlete surPrise to me, but the instant I heard it I knew that this was the way the song was meant to be heard.” “Lyrically, ‘Poison’ was written as a conversation between a couPle—I hoPe it conjures a Portrait of one of those intense moments of contemPlation in a relationshiP that you never forget, forever frozen inside a snow globe.

August 25, 2021 For Immediate Release Marissa Nadler Announces New Album The Path of the Clouds Out October 29th on Sacred Bones & Bella Union & Shares Lead Single/Video “Bessie, Did You Make It?" Photo credit: Nick Fancher Marissa Nadler announces her ninth solo album, The Path of the Clouds, out October 29th on Sacred Bones & Bella Union, and shares the lead single/video, “Bessie, Did You Make It?” The Path of the Clouds is the most stylistically adventurous, lyrically transfixing, and melodically sophisticated collection of songs in her already rich discography. Gripped by wanderlust while suddenly housebound at the start of the pandemic in 2020, Nadler escaped into writing, and came back with a stunning set of songs about metamorphosis, love, mysticism, and murder. Blurring the line between reality and fantasy and moving freely between past and present, these 11 deeply personal, self-produced songs find Nadler exploring new landscapes, both sonic and emotional. While she’s always been a brilliant guitarist, Nadler challenged herself to expand her palette for The Path of the Clouds, experimenting with synthetic textures that make the album feel untethered from time and space. Nadler also learned to play piano during the pandemic’s isolation, and she composed many of the songs on the album on keys rather than guitar, which further contributed to their exploratory feel. These songs are unmistakably Marissa Nadler’s, but they sound free to go places she’s never gone before. One of Nadler’s distractions during the 2020 quarantine was binging reruns of Unsolved Mysteries. As she watched, she began to notice parallels between many of its stories and her own life.

  • Marissa Nadler Hypnotiserer Dig Ind I Sit Apokalyptiske Drømmeunivers
