The Brandon Curling Club was first founded in 1889-90 on the corner of 18th Street and Victoria Ave. Since its inception, the Brandon Curling Club has moved three times and was destroyed by fire twice. In 1992-93 the Brandon Curling Club contributed financially to the expansion of the Keystone Centre, where we have now have our eight sheet curling rink.

We are happy to report we had 15 curlers sign up and participate! The group had a wide range of skills. Some looking to improve, while others had never stepped on the ice before. We already have a list of participants started that are interested in learn to curl for the start of next season! Volunteers needed to help run this at the start of next season. Talk with the manager, Crystal Lawson for more information if you are interested!

If you are a team with a bye and would like to practice at your regular league times, please also call ahead.

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! Volunteering can bring huge benefits to both the volunteer and the organization. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped out this past season with the MANY programs, bonspiels & other events held at the club this year! Neil Andrews Bonspiel, Sunlife Junior Challenge, Curl 101 session, wheelchair sessions, Thursday Youth Curling, School/Youth Groups, Ag Day changeover & Championship Day. Some of these events did struggle to find people to help. Volunteers are key part for non-profit organizations. For next season, I’d love to new faces helping out whenever you can!

WHEELCHAIR CURLING On November 25th, 2017 we hosted a learn to wheelchair curl here at the BCC. Two wheelchair sport gold medalists taught the workshop. Following the Session, Ryan Sturgeon with Community Mental Health Program in Brandon, quickly booked ice at the club for the rest of the season on Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 pm for practice. The participants are quickly improving their skills, and have already committed to renting 1 sheet for next season, and will possibly be starting games! A Very exciting future! Ryan is also hopeful to start a basketball league for wheelchair users in the summer!

MANAGER’S LETTER I love all aspects of curling. The sportsmanship, the competition, the challenge, the lingo, the social aspect, the fun. It’s a sport that can be enjoyed by anyone. Curling is one of the few sports that has such a diverse grassroots base. From farmers to businesspeople, from the youth to the masters, stick curling & wheelchair curling. People from all walks of life participate in curling all over the world. I don’t know if you’ll find a friendlier place than at a curling rink. Lots of chatter, lots of laughs. For all of you curlers out there, keep loving the sport, keep supporting the club. We will see you next season!

Brandon Curling Club is continually looking for ways to enhance our curling programs and improve your experience.

If you have any ideas you would like to share feel free to speak the club manager, send an email to the club or leave a note in the suggestion box (located beside the manager’s office)
