Kerala was an unknown tourist destination till then. The role of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation has brought Kerala and its unique tourist potential to the lime light. KTDC is a government agency that oversees tourism prospects of the state. This dissertation tries to learn and research on the factors that have significant impact on customer satisfaction with respect to service quality. These factors have to be identified and improved. Even when there is a boom in the sector the growth estimated is never at par with the estimated potential. Understanding customer satisfaction is thus an important tool for enhancing the tourist’s inflow to the state. This research explains that there is a relation between the information provided to the tourists and their perception about Kerala as a tourist destination. The proposed research methodology undertaken also establishes that there is no relation between the kindness of local people and tour operators in Kerala and the perception which tourists have about Kerala. The research comes out with multiple revelations. The research reveals that Kerala is chosen as a tourist destination primarily because of the greenery and climate. Food is another reason for choosing Kerala as a tourist destination. The need and demand for local cuisine indirectly generates demand for the homestays. Four variables have been considered for evaluating the quality of life of the stakeholders of ecotourism sites, which is then funneled to the income-education spectrum for hypothesizing into the SLI framework. Zone-wise analysis of the community members working in tourism sector shows that the community members have benefited totally from tourism development in the region as they have got both employments as well as secured livelihood options. Most of the quality of life-indicators of the community in the eco-tourist centres show a promising position. The community perception does not show any negative impact on environment as well as on their local culture. This initiative to motivate women entrepreneurs to start ‘home stay’ started in 2017-2018. Anamudi (2685 m), the highest peak in peninsular forming part of the High Ranges of Western Ghats, also known as India, lies in these hills inside Eravikulam National Park (NP).

    Anamudi Peak in Kerala Anamudi is the tallest mountain in South India The pride of Kerala, the Anamudi Peak is a mountain in the Western Ghats. Located amidst the Eravikulam National Park, the mountain is at an altitude of 2,695 m, which makes it the highest mountain in South India. Being the highest point in India outside the Himalayan range, the Anamudi Peak offers spectacular vistas of the Eravikulam National Park . Efforts are being made to get the park listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Attractions at the Anamudi Peak The biggest attraction of Anamudi, along with the Eravikulam National Park, is that it is a habitat to one of the largest surviving populations of Asian elephants, gaurs, and the Nilgiri tahrs. A paradise in the wild, the mountain is surrounded by dense vegetation that has become a breeding haven for a wide variety of animals. A number of plants and animals in the area are endemic to the region. Of all the animals that are found in the region, the Nilgiri tahr is the most famous. It is an endangered species. Another critically endangered species is the Raorchestes Resplendens, which is a new species of frog that was recently found near the mountain and is found nowhere else on the Earth. There are also about 100 varieties of butterflies in the park including the rare Parantica Nilgiriensis. There are more than 200 species of moths here such as the Atlas Moth, which is amongst the largest moths in the world. The Anamudi Peak is surrounded by grasslands with patches of forests called ‘ Sholas’ and certain plants, such as wintergreen, Anaphalis, and Impatiens, which are known to have medicinal properties.

It attracts huge number of local, national and international tourists during every blooming season. This spectacular phenomenon happens only once in twelve years, thus it has got its own novelty which is never ending. Each blooming season witnesses an increase in number of visitors comparing to its previous blooming seasons. After 2006, in this year ‘2018’, Kerala is once again getting ready to extend a warm welcome to this marvelous event which will be having its peak time between the months of July to October. The forest department is expecting a total of 8 lakhs visitors in this Neelakurinji season. This study was undertaken as per the outcome of the meeting held on 11/10/2017 chaired by Hon. Chief Minister regarding Neelakurinji Blooming Season Preparedness (vide letter no. DM1/76/2017-DMD). The study conducted by Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) mainly focused in identifying and preventing possible hazards which may cast dark shadow over this remarkable event through effective planning and preparedness on department basis. Approximately 1640 km2 area was demarcated and selected for conducting this study. The area is highly susceptible to major hazards like Landslides (High & Medium Hazard Zones), Flashfloods, Road accidents, Human animal conflicts etc.
