Partington and Carrington sit within the ward of St Martin’s in the borough of Trafford. Partington is the most deprived area of Trafford and encompasses two Super Output Areas which sit in the bottom 5% of the Index of Multiple Deprivation.

Physical isolation of Partington and Carrington is a major issue with regards to residents accessing services and employment opportunities elsewhere in the borough. The nearest towns are (approximately 4 miles away) and (approximately 5 miles away) and are only accessible by car or bus.

Although unemployment levels, child poverty levels and health inequalities are high compared to other areas of Trafford, the area has a distinct sense of community spirit and many residents are proud to live in Partington and Carrington.

This Community First Plan has been created using Partington’s Community Needs Assessment, Partington Partnership’s Neghbourhood Plan and Trafford Partnership’s West Action Plan.

Community Involvement

In 2011, a Community Needs Assessment was carried out in Partington to help local organisations understand the needs of the community.

650 questionnaires were returned representing almost 10% of the population. 500 of the questionnaires were completed by local residents and 150 by young people attending Broadoak High School. The Community Needs Assessment covered health, employment, youth provision, family services, crime, environment and transport.

Partington Partnership is made up of service providers, Councillors, community groups and residents who work together to oversee projects to improve quality of life for the Partington community.

Partington Partnership’s Action Plan and information from Trafford Partnership’s West Action Log has also contributed to this Community First Plan. The Action Log was created at Trafford Partnership’s Event in March 2012 which saw residents, businesses and organisations come together to identify priorities for the West area of Trafford which includes Partington and Carrington.
