Lifestyle FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2016 Bieber pal Lil Twist jailed for assault Drake il Twist, the rapper best known as the sidekick of Justin Bieber, was sentenced to a year in prison Wednesday after Lhe pleaded guilty to assault. The 23-year-old rapper acknowledged that he beat up fellow artist and former child star Chris Massey two years ago at the Los Angeles apartment of the victim's brother, Kyle Massey. Chris Massey had asked Lil Twist to leave a party and he returned half an hour later with four others as Lil Twist subdued him, kicked him and pummeled him with brass knuckles, prosecutors said. Lil Twist, whose real name is Christopher Moore, pleaded guilty in court to five counts including assault and robbery. He was given one year in prison, avoiding a longer term if he went to trial, the Los Angeles district attorney's office said. Lil Twist had until recently been a constant presence around Bieber, frequently appearing at parties with the onetime teenage star who became notorious for his legal run-ins. Drake tops Spotify's In 2013, Lil Twist was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence while driving the Canadian singer's Ferrari. While best known on the celebrity circuit, Lil Twist is signed to 2016 list with rapper Lil Wayne's label Young Money. The Department for Children, Schools and Families last night confirmed that Children's Secretary Ed Balls had asked for a review of academies by Gordon Brown's Delivery Unit, due to report within a few months. The Department insisted that the academy programme will not be scrapped, but some education experts are already fearing for the future of the flagship Blairite policy. The Number 10 unit will question academy headteachers and business sponsors, following a workshop at Downing Street earlier this month. An invitation to participate, seen by The Guardian, described the study as an "intensive piece of work to help DCSF gather lessons learned so far in addressing disadvantage... (and) the culture of under-attainment in the most challenging communities". The DCSF spokesman said last night the commissioning of the review was not an indication that the Government was preparing to scrap the programme. The Government has committed to increasing the number of academies from the current 83 to 200 by 2010, with the target of eventually reaching 400 schools - one in nine of all secondaries in England - said the spokesman.

By Jenny Drabble Staff Writer A bill filed in the N.C. Senate Tuesday has some UNC students concerned about their ability to vote in future elections. Senate Bill 667, also known as “Equalize Voter Rights,” would force voting students to travel home or vote absentee — or see their parents face higher taxes. The bill prevents parents from claiming college students as dependents in the state income tax if their child is registered to vote at his or her college address. Critics of the bill, sponsored by six DTH/MADDI BRANTLEY Republican senators, say it is a move to suppress college voters.
