Alter focuses its curriculum at the college preparatory level, while meeting the needs of the non-college bound student. While emphasizing Christian justice, moral judgment and individual responsibility, Alter strives to produce students capable of evaluating, analyzing, and synthesizing material in a creative, yet logical manner. The athletic programs play a vital role in the total effort to provide the finest educational experiences for the students of Alter. Team Prayer by Fr. Jim Manning Praying and Sports As some of us may know, there is research on the relationship of prayer and athletic events. One such document is entitled “The Experience of Christian Prayer in Coaching: a Qualitative Investigation” by Trevor Egli from Georgia Southern University. Such a study compares coaches who pray and those that do not and what the difference is in life-long learning. Such research validates the importance of prayer in athletic events in Catholic Education. That is why we are proud to pray before all of our activities here at Alter especially our sports. So let us pray: “God, may we experience you in all the events of our lives and especially in our athletic activities. May our praying image our coaches as shepherds who truly care about the welfare of their team! May our praying teach us the importance of togetherness and what it truly means to be a team! May our praying together teach us the value of sacrifice, commitment, discipline, hard work, and collaboration! May our praying teach us about winning and losing and what it really means to be a success in life! May our praying teach us that competition breeds quality and helps us discern in life where our God-given gifts really are! May our praying teach us about the ultimate goal line in life which is heaven and that saints are the ultimate winners in life! May our praying teach us some the greatest lessons in life! We make this prayer through Christ, our Lord. AMEN!” We are proud to pray before all that we do here at Alter High School, especially our athletic events! Fr. Jim 2 To the Parents, Faculty and Friends of Alter Football While it will be a steep challenge to duplicate the success our football program experienced last year of playing for a State Championship, Alter approaches every year with the attitude that if our players work hard in the off-season and remain focused, we control our own destiny. The goals of our program remain the same for the 2015 Season: enter our league games undefeated, win a 14th consecutive GCL North Championship, followed by another deep run in the playoffs. Alter will get every opponent’s best effort on the field week after week – and we are up to the challenge. The 2015 non-league schedule is the same as last year, opening against back-yard rival Fairmont, followed by Withrow in Week 2. Our last non-league game matches us up against Thurgood Marshall, which has become one of the area’s best non-league match-ups. In Week 4, Alter begins GCL play with a clash at Fenwick, followed by a road trip to Cincinnati against Roger Bacon. Our Homecoming game is against Purcell Marian, before finishing the second half of the league schedule at Badin, home against McNicholas and Carroll, and a regular season finale at CJ. We have always enjoyed the support from the entire Alter community and our Football program appreciates all the effort and sacrifice it takes for the community to offer support at this level. We realize this continued support is a great part of what makes Alter football such a special experience and one of the top high school programs in the state. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you at Roush Stadium on August 28th in your Brown and Gold. Go Knights, Beat Fairmont! Ed Domsitz 3 Alter Football Association 2015 LIFT-A-THON SPONSORS On behalf of the entire AFA, THANK YOU to all of the loyal supporters and friends of Alter High School, and especially the parent representatives, players, and coaches for the hard work and sacrifice that went into Lift-A-Thon 2015. The players lifted over 16,845 pounds! Your generous support, along with the players’ tireless efforts, has helped ensure the program has the resources to make another run at the state playoffs. GO KNIGHTS!! BEAT FAIRMONT! Sincerely, Mark Miller, Lift-A-Thon Chairman Following is a list of all donors who were able to contribute a gift of $50 or more to this year’s Lift-A-Thon.
