1994 CHAMPIONS 2012 CHAMPIONS 2016 CHAMPIONS 2017 CHAMPIONS WINNIPEG GOLDEYES 2021 GAME INFORMATION GAME: #76 ROAD GAME: #37 WINNIPEG GOLDEYES (38-37) at CHICAGO DOGS (47-30) THURSDAY, AUGUST 12th , 2021 – IMPACT FIELD – 6:05 PM TONIGHT’S STARTING PITCHERS: WIN: RHP Jose Vasquez (0-0, 3.00) CHI: LHP Shane Barringer (1-0, 1.29) DOGS TAKE TWO FROM GOLDEYES: The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost both games of a double header to the Chicago Dogs on Wednesday, 12-4 in the opener and 4-3 in 10 innings in the nightcap. In game one, Chicago took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-out, two-run single from Harrison Smith. The Dogs added four more runs in the fourth on RBI from Grant Kay, Michael Crouse, and Danny Mars. Kyle Martin sliced the lead to 6-2 with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth, but the Dogs answered in the bottom of the inning on a two-out, three-run homer from Smith. Ryan Lidge hit a three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to make it 12-2 Chicago. The Goldeyes scratched out two runs in the top of the seventh on a Max Murphy groundout and a Martin sacrifice fly. Dylan Burns started game one for the Goldeyes and took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings. Burns walked none and struck out two. In the nightcap, Winnipeg took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a two-out, solo home run from Martin. The Dogs scored three runs in the bottom half on a Lidge sacrifice fly and a Kay two-run home run. Trailing 3-1 in the top of the seventh, the Goldeyes rallied to tie the game on a solo home run from Raul Navarro and a two-out solo shot from Logan Hill. The Dogs ultimately won in the bottom of the 10th on an RBI single from TJ Bennett. Austin Henrich took the loss in relief. Jorge Gonzalez started and took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. Gonzalez walked two and struck out two. ALL-TIME AGAINST THE DOGS: The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 16-25 all-time against the Chicago Dogs, including an 8-15 record at Impact Field. The Dogs are in their fourth season of existence, and are based out of the Village of Rosemont, Illinois. Rosemont is located 18 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The Dogs play at state-of-the-art Impact Field, a $60 Million facility with a seating capacity of 6,300. The Dogs were one of the six teams to participate in the shortened, 60-game 2020 American Association season. Chicago finished with a record of 26-32 in 2020. In 2019, the Dogs were 59-41, which was good for the third-best record in the American Association. The Dogs were 45-54 during their expansion season in 2018, finishing 34-27 following an 11-27 start. Former Major League player and manager Butch Hobson is in his fourth year as Dogs’ manager. Hobson enjoyed an eight-year playing career in the Majors with the Boston Red Sox, California Angels, and New York Yankees. In 1977, Hobson hit 30 home runs and had 112 RBI for Boston. Hobson is in his 32 nd season managing in professional baseball, and skippered the Red Sox from 1992-94. Hobson has extensive experience managing in independent baseball, and is one of only five managers in the history of the industry with more than 1,000 wins. Hobson led the Nashua Pride (Atlantic League/Can-Am League) for eight seasons, including an Atlantic League championship in 2000 and a Can-Am League title in 2007. Hobson also guided the Atlantic League’s Lancaster Barnstormers for six years, winning a championship in 2014. In 2017, Hobson led the Low-A Midwest League’s Kane County Cougars (Arizona Diamondbacks) to a 72-65 record. SERIES MATCHUP: The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 38-37, in fourth place in the American Association North Division, and 8.5 games behind the Milwaukee Milkmen. The Goldeyes just swept a three-game series from the Milkmen at Shaw Park. The Goldeyes are third in the American Association in hitting (.286), 10 th in pitching (5.83), and tied for eighth in fielding (.978). The Chicago Dogs are 47-30, in second place in the North, and 0.5 games behind the Milkmen. The Dogs just swept a three-game series from the Sioux Falls Canaries at Impact Field. The Dogs are tied for sixth in the league in batting (.274), third in pitching (4.55), and tied for fourth in defence (.980). This is the third of four head-to-head series this season between Winnipeg and Chicago. The Goldeyes were 3-6 against the Dogs in 2020. TONIGHT’S STARTERS: The Goldeyes go with rookie PROJECTED UPC OMING PITCHING MATCHUPS right-hander Jose Vasquez who will be making his first 8/13 at KCC: TBA vs. LHP Josh Tols (3-5, 3.95) career professional start. Vasquez is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA 8/14 at KCC: TBA vs. RHP Jack Fox (2-4, 4.81) in three relief appearances, and picked up his first career 8/15 at KCC: TBA vs. RHP Connor Berry (2-1, 4.76) save last Thursday vs. Sioux City with 3.0 scoreless innings. Vasquez finished his college career in 2019 at Northwestern State University (Natchitoches, Louisiana) where he was 2-2 with two saves and a 6.75 ERA in 14 relief appearances for the Demons. Vasquez totaled 56 strikeouts in 60.1 innings at Northwestern State from 2018-19, and also pitched two seasons at Grayson College (Dennison, Texas) from 2016-17. Tonight will be Vasquez’s first career appearance against Chicago, as well as his first career appearance at Impact Field. The Dogs go with true rookie left-hander Shane Barringer who is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two starts and one relief appearance since signing with the Dogs on July 27 th . Barringer picked up his first career professional win last Saturday vs. Sioux Falls, allowing two earned runs on five hits in 5.0 innings. Barringer walked one and struck out six. Barringer recently completed his college career at Bellarmine University (Louisville, Kentucky) where he was 2-4 with a 7.32 ERA in eight starts and one relief appearance for the Knights as a fifth-year senior in 2021. Barringer pitched at Bellarmine from 2019-21, and also spent two seasons at Siena College (Loudonville, Kentucky) from 2017-18. During his five seasons of college baseball, Barringer was a combined 21-16 with one save and a 4.60 ERA in 95 games, 36 of them as a starting pitcher. Tonight will be Barringer’s first career appearance against Winnipeg. Barringer is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in one start and one relief appearance in his career at Impact Field. GOLDEYES RETURN HOME: The Winnipeg Goldeyes returned to Shaw Park on Tuesday, August 3 rd with a 14-6 win over the Sioux City Explorers. It marked the Goldeyes’ first official home game since September 2 nd , 2019, which was a span of 701 days. A total of 20 games over 19 home dates were added to the remaining schedule. AMERICAN ASSOCIATION POSTSEASON FORMAT ADJUSTED: On August 4 th , the American Association announced an expanded playoff format. The top three teams in each division by winning percentage will now qualify for the postseason. The second- and third-place teams in each division will meet in a one-game playoff. The winner of the playoff game will face the winner from their own division in a best-of-five Division Series. The Division Series winners then meet in a best-of-five American Association Championship Series. The format originally called for the top two teams in each division qualifying and immediately meeting in the Division Series. GOLDEYES TRANSACTIONS: The Winnipeg Goldeyes acquired right-handed pitcher Joseph Camacho from the Cleburne Railroaders on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later. Camacho was 1-0 with a 6.57 ERA in 11 relief appearances for Cleburne, striking out seven in 12.1 innings pitched. Camacho signed with the Oakland Athletics as a non-drafted free agent in 2016, and reached the Triple-A level in 2018. The Goldeyes also signed right-handed pitcher Reed Hayes. Hayes made seven combined appearances at three levels of the Baltimore Orioles’ organization this season, including one relief appearance for the Double-A Northeast’s Bowie Baysox. Hayes was drafted by the Orioles in the 13 th round out of Vanderbilt University in 2017, and has averaged 8.1 strikeouts per nine innings during four seasons in the affiliated minor leagues. GOLDEYES SIGN RIGHT-HANDER RYAN: The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed right-handed pitcher Zac Ryan on Friday. Ryan made 23 relief appearances earlier this season for the Triple-A West’s Salt Lake Bees (Los Angeles Angels), striking out 39 in 31.0 innings. Ryan was drafted by the Angels in the 23 rd round in 2017 out of Georgia Tech University, and has finished with more strikeouts than innings pitched in each of his four seasons in the affiliated minors. GOLDEYES ACQUIRE MAJOR LEAGUER: The Winnipeg Goldeyes acquired former Major League left-hander Donnie Hart from the Atlantic League’s Gastonia Honey Hunters on Monday in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jose Jose.
