Introduction:

The Durham-QMUL-Leeds International Research School is a bespoke on-line programme designed specifically to provide training in research to students interested in pursuing university studies at any level or in any discipline.

The aim of the research school is to introduce students to research work through an intensive, multi-faceted three-week programme. Students will be encouraged to reflect on some of the big challenges facing the world today by engaging in an interdisciplinary group research project while at the same time enhancing their generic research and English language skills to prepare them for future studies complimented by workshops in related themes such as Innovation and Creativity. In addition, they will have the opportunity to mix with students from different backgrounds and cultures, both those participating in our other summer programmes and current research students at Durham. The students also will have the opportunity to experience some of the attractions of the local region through virtual tours and other activities.

Programme Content:

Supervised research project related to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Generic research skills training and support (planning research, students will be supported to create a presentation on the research they are undertaking based on 3-minute thesis concept) Workshops on research-related themes such as innovation and idea generation, exploring your creativity, social enterprise and networking. English language training (academic writing skills etc.) Social activity and peer mentoring.

Students will have the opportunity to experience working on a small interdisciplinary group research project. Each working project group of students will have a mentor who will be an existing doctoral research student at the university.

Projects will vary depending on the background, level of study and interests of the students but will relate in some way to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students will be asked to present the findings of their research project in groups to a relevant audience at the end of the three weeks.
