The Pastor’s Role: Pastor Teacher

The next leader of Rollins Christian Fellowship will be a pastor-teacher with the heart and gifts necessary to fulfill the calling of (1) shepherding God’s people, and (2) further preparing us for the work of the ministry of the Church.

Pastor/: He will have a love for people and joyfully invest the time necessary to know the people of the church. He will lovingly guide them toward being conformed to the image of Christ through care, encouragement and instruction, and when necessary, reproof and correction. And he will make prayer for the people of the church a high priority.

Teacher: He will have the gift of teaching and/or preaching and have solid training and experience in using his gift(s). The pastor will be motivated to continue to sharpen his understanding of God’s Word and his ability to communicate it effectively. Those who apply his teaching will experience a deeper fellowship with God, a more biblical worldview and a heart and lifestyle that reflect Jesus Christ.

Overview

The Pastor will work with the Rollins Church Board in overseeing the life and direction of the church. Together they will shape and implement a vision for the church that is:

Biblical – Encompassing priorities for what God will do in us as His children, among us as brothers and sisters in Christ, and through us as the Church, the light of the world.

Tailored to Rollins CFC – Utilizing our resources and abilities and understanding our situation and needs. Through a churchwide survey and evaluation, the Rollins Board has identified building relationships with the people of Rollins and within the community, solid Biblical teaching/preaching and a commitment to prayer as essential requirements for the Pastor.

Key Qualifications and Responsibilities:

These are not listed in order of priority. Prayer, listed last, should be a major component of all the other pastoral traits. 1. Meet biblical qualifications for an : These personal, family and spiritual qualifications are outlined in 1 Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.

2. Preaching and teaching – the ministry of the Word: The Pastor will be the primary for Sunday worship services and use other opportunities to teach and share God’s Word in small groups and one-to-one discipleship.

3. The work of an evangelist: The Pastor will seek and take opportunities to communicate and explain the good news of salvation person-to-person and in his preaching when fitting.

4. Preparing God’s people for the work of the ministry: The Pastor will ensure that opportunities are in place for each member or attender to grow spiritually, experience genuine biblical fellowship, understand and develop their spiritual gifts and find a role in serving within the church and in the church’s Great Commission mandate. This does not mean the Pastor must lead/implement these opportunities; His role will be to lead those that are developing, implementing and leading the opportunities. Such opportunities are to include small groups, classes, seminars for training and opportunities for outreach and service in the community and, in time, around the world.

5. Building relationships with members and newcomers: The Pastor will be a caring and effective shepherd of the flock because he has taken the time to know the people of Rollins and make connections with visitors and newcomers.

6. Strategic leadership and planning: The Pastor is responsible for leading the process of strategic planning and execution of the church’s vision and purpose. The Pastor will define strategic goals to facilitate success in this area.

7. Miscellaneous duties: As necessary, the Pastor will conduct weddings and funerals, have the joy of baptizing or overseeing the baptizing of new Believers and lead or assist in communion services. He will share with the Board the ministry of home and hospital visitations. The Pastor will supervise the Office Administrator.

8. Report to the Board: The Pastor will file monthly reports with the Board on ministry initiatives, activities and accomplishments. He will undergo an annual review conducted by a sub-committee of the Board for the purpose of encouraging him in his ministry, evaluating his efforts in the pursuit of maximum fruitfulness and review of his compensation.

9. Continual Development: The Pastor will seek to attend one conference or training seminar per year, paid for by the church, for the purpose of ongoing development.

10. Prayer: The Pastor will make prayer a high priority as he fulfills the responsibilities of the pastor-teacher and leader as outlined above.

Rollins Christian Fellowship Church is a non-denominational church committed to the authority of the and the preaching of God’s Word, biblical discipleship and true community. Giving: We currently give 13% of our budget to missions and support our missionaries in many other ways throughout the year. This is in our DNA as a church started as a missionary endeavor.

Founding: Started by the American Sunday School Union in 1935, the facilities include a full gym, extensive Christian Education areas and two kitchens. The church owns two parsonages on the 30-acre property, and both are maintained in excellent condition.

Location: Located 15 minutes north of the desirable Cadillac area, the church is just outside the village Manton. Cadillac and nearby Traverse City offer all the amenities including excellent health care and shopping – without the crowds and with all the scenic beauty the area offers.

Beliefs: The doctrine and philosophy of the church is consistent with historic regarding the Triune God, His Church, the infallibility/inerrancy of Scripture, salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and last things. Of more recent history, our Statement of Faith is in line with the IFCA movement, the Independent Fundamental Churches of America.

Recent History: RCFC had a long history of stability and growth until about 2012. Since then, pastor and staff changes have produced challenges. However, under the leadership of an interim pastor, unity and a renewed vision have been established. The church is stable and has experienced some growth.

Current and Future: The current board of the church serves as the senior pastor search team and is looking for a pastor-teacher who demonstrates giftedness in preaching the Word of God, showing strong and loving leadership, over-all pastoral concerns, and who can cross- generationally. He will be assisted in the ministry by a willing group of Believers that have been “prepared to do the work of the ministry.”

Attendance, Budget, Pastoral Salary: Currently the church attendance is about 90 during Covid and the annual budget for 2021 is $175,000, showing the giving spirit of the Rollins Church people.

Projected pastor salary package which includes health insurance and all expenses paid in our church parsonage is $60,000+. At present there are no church staff members. Pastor Rob Eddy is a board member and fulfilling the responsibilities of a part-time interim pastor.
