How to Reach Urbino How to reach Urbino Urbino is located in the middle of the Apennines, 30 km from the Adriatic coast. The town can be reached directly only by car or bus, not by train. The closest towns to Urbino are Pesaro and Fano, where there are train stations; trains from Milano, Bologna or Rome stop there. The fastest way to reach Urbino is to fly to Bologna (or Ancona) and to rent a car or by bus (the cheapest) from either Pesaro or Fano. BY AIR The closest Airports to Urbino are Ancona, Bologna, Rimini and Forlì. Please follow the links below for detailed information. ANCONA: Raffaello Sanzio Airport at Falconara Marittima http://www.ancona‐airport.com 45 Km South of Pesaro Information office and bookings: Tel. +39‐071‐28271 Direct flights with low cost companies from London (www.ryanair.com ), Barcelona and Paris (www.evolavia.com ) Suggested route: From the airport take the bus to the train station in Ancona and from there take a train to Pesaro (about 30 min) and from Pesaro take the Bus (see section below). BOLOGNA: Aereoporto G. Marconi http://www.bologna‐airport.it/ Bologna is the largest international airport of the area and is only a two‐hour drive from Urbino. It is served by many low cost airlines, please refer to the airport website for details. RIMINI: Aeroporto Federico Fellini http://www.riminiairport.com Information office and bookings Tel. +39.0541.715711 Rimini is also a very small airport, but the low‐cost airline Easyjet (www.easyjet.com) flies there. Rimini can be also useful for connections from Rome with Alitalia (www.alitalia.com) or other major European cities such as London, Amsterdam or Brussels. Suggested route: From the airport take a bus to the train station in Rimini. From there take a train to Pesaro (about 15‐20 min.) and from Pesaro take the bus (see section below). MILAN: from Milan Airports you can reach the Central station and take a train to the South for Pesaro. From Pesaro you can reach Urbino by bus (see section below). ROME: from Rome Airports you can reach Termini station with ‘Leonardo’ train from Fiumicino Airport or the Airbus from Ciampino Airport. From Termini station you can take a train to Pesaro via Ancona (about 4 hours trip). From Pesaro station you can reach Urbino by bus (see section below). Otherwise from the Airports in Rome you can reach Tiburtina station from where you can get a direct bus to Urbino (for further details see section below). BY BUS Buses from Pesaro or Fano to Urbino run frequently, for schedule information please visit the website: http://www.adriabus.eu/ http://www.amibus.it/viewdoc.asp?CO_ID=4556 There are daily buses into the Urbino‐Montefeltro area from/to Rome (http://www.adriabus.eu/viewdoc.asp?CO_ID=4299). If you are coming from Tuscany you can travel via San Sepolcro, but it is quite a long trip. BY CAR From Rome, follow the old Via Flaminia through the Scheggia Pass, using the E45 via Perugia; From Florence and Arezzo, follow the Bocca Trabaria, Bocca Serriola, Badia Tebalda or Viamaggio passes. From Bologna take the A14 motorway and go south. Use the following exit: “Pesaro‐Urbino” to reach Urbino. From the “Pesaro‐Urbino” exit you should take the SS 423 Urbinate, Urbino is 28Km from the highway exit. It will take you about 30‐45 min. From Ancona take the A14 motorway and go north. Use the following exit “Fano” to reach Urbino. From the “Fano” exit you should take the “superstrada” and follow signs to Urbino. It will take you about 30‐40 min. BY TRAIN The recommended stations are Pesaro (if you are travelling from the north) or Fano (if you are travelling from the south). If you are travelling from Rome, the closest station is Fossato di Vico‐Gubbio which is about a two hour train ride from the capital. From Fossato, however, there are few bus connections, and taxis are quite expensive (about 65€) so we suggest travelling to Pesaro by changing trains at the Falconara Marittima station.     Eliseo Mattiacci (Cagli, Pesaro-Urbino, 1940) Cultura mummificata (Mummified Culture), 1972, is made up of a series of books cast in aluminum, scattered freely on the floor. Like evidence of a remote past, the installation seems to convey the image of a mysteriously abandoned library. However it betrays more than one contradiction: the books are closed and “mute,” the words they should convey cannot be intuited and nor do their covers bear any information. Like a memory no longer accessible, the function of the books in the context of the transmission of knowledge is stopped and enclosed in a time that stands still. Casually overturned on the floor, the books seem like fragments of an unstable construction, an anti-monument that doesn’t celebrate anything except its own precariousness. Themes related to the dissemination of culture and communication are further examined in Alfabeti primari (Primary Alphabets), Planisfero con fusi orari (Planisphere with Cast Hours) and Progetto totale (Total Project) – other works that the artist originally exhibited along with Cultura mummificata at the 1972 Venice Biennale. It is impossible, however, to restrict Mattiacci’s research to one theme or a limited selection of arguments. His long career is characterized by a continuous flow of energy, which significantly began with public actions that encourage the participation of spectators, and within which the temporal dimension helps to heighten the work’s sense of process and its ephemeral nature. In 1967 his sculpture Tubo (Tube) arrived at the exhibition space only after having been transported along the streets of Rome, while in Percorso (Journey), 1969, he used a road roller to smooth out dirt placed on the gallery floor.

    Situata in una zona collinosa (312 m. s.l.m.), Sant’Angelo in Lizzola si trova a circa 15 km da Pesaro. Il suo nome deriva dagli antichi castelli di Lizzola e Monte Sant’Angelo. È un luogo da visitare poiché già da tempi lontani era meta di villeggiatura prediletto da artisti e letterati. Veduta dall’alto di Sant’Angelo in Lizzola Il castello più antico è quello di Lizzola che sembra esistesse prima dell’anno 1000 come documentato dal lascito del Pontefice Clemente II che, morendo nella vicina Abbadia di San Tommaso, lasciava ai monaci vari terreni tra cui il Castello di Lizzola e i suoi territori. In seguito passò sotto il dominio della città di Pesaro e nel 1280 fu acquistato dalla comunità di Monte Sant’Angelo. I Signori di Lizzola si rifiutarono di sottomettersi alla città di Pesaro governata dai Malatesta e nel 1280 il castello di Lizzola (Liciola) fu venduto dal comune di Pesaro alla comunità di Monte Sant’Angelo. La popolazione di Monte Sant’Angelo acquistò il castello di Lizzola per la somma di cinquecento lire ravennati, poiché il loro castello, costruito su un terreno acquitrinoso, si stava deteriorando. Dall’unione di questi due castelli nacque Sant’Angelo in Lizzola. Dopo l’acquisto nacque il nuovo stemma della Comunità: un Angelo Santo con due spade incrociate che erano il simbolo dei due castelli. Il castello di Lizzola fu distrutto nelle lotte tra guelfi e ghibellini e nei documenti dell’epoca ne rimase solo il toponimo di Villa. Tra la fine del XVI e l’inizio del XVII secolo erano presenti molte confraternite tra cui, per citarne alcune, la Confraternita Della Natività, la compagnia del Rosario, quella del Sacramento e quella delle stigmate di San Francesco.
