Page 12 Bridging the Counties - June 2009 Help Needed!

We need a Bridging the Counties Liaison. You must have a White Plains mailing address in order to mail out through the White Plains business mailing office. Basically, the job entails getting all the returned copies of Bridging the Counties (those that don’t get successfully delivered by the post office) and usually paying the postman $.50-$.75 a copy for the return postage. You can be reimbursed for this by the Unit. The previous liaison has a series of letters (on the computer) in which he either notified the person to change their address with the ACBL or notified the ACBL to take them off the mailing list. It's not really part of the job, but if you would like to do this as well, he will pass the letters on to you. If you are interested, contact Robin Brown.

Local Girls Win North Jersey School Bridge Championship

Shira Chait and Danielle Wolk, fifth graders at the Solomon Schecter School of Westchester in White Plains, were first overall at the North Jersey School Bridge Championship, held on April 22. Approximately 100 kids from grade school through high school competed, nearly 20 of whom were from Enith Friedman’s program at the Solomon Schecter School. The program is in its second year and runs during lunch and recreation periods. The program has met with great success for the third, fourth and fifth graders, and it is likely to be expanded to the middle school in Hartsdale next academic year. Shira and Danielle were competing for the top spot mostly with high school students. Undaunted, they showed respect for their competition, but played their own game and emerged victorious.
