This is part of a wider assessment of sport and leisure provision in the borough which also includes indoor and outdoor built leisure facilities. 1.2 Strategic drivers The primary purpose of the PPS is to provide a strategic framework which ensures that the provision of outdoor playing pitches meets the local needs of existing and future residents within Maidstone Borough. Development in the Borough has brought an increase in sports provision which is able to meet some of the needs of the area. However future development is likely to put a strain on the sporting infrastructure of Maidstone. The PPS will help to secure and safeguard sport in Maidstone now and in the future. 1.3 The aim and objectives of the strategy 1.3.1 Aim The aim of the PPS is to provide Maidstone Borough Council with an assessment of all relevant outdoor sport facilities in the Borough.
