Through five games, Ippolito is third on the team with 25 tackles. He’s tied for the team lead in tackles-for-loss with four and also has two fumble recoveries and 1 ½ sacks. The middle linebacker has endured a lot of adversity throughout his Arizona tenure, but has risen above it. In 2012, Ippolito played in seven games as a true freshman, mostly serving as a special teams contributor. A year later, he missed the entire season with a torn ACL. He rebounded in 2014 and flourished playing as an outside linebacker next to consensus national defensive player of the year, Scooby Wright. Ippolito had 52 tackles and 6 ½ tackles-for-loss in 14 games, starting six. He was poised to be a stalwart on last year’s defense, but again tore his ACL and missed the entire season for the second time in his career. However, Ippolito is healthy now and led Arizona on Saturday against UCLA with six solo tackles and a tackle-for-loss.

The 6-foot, 237-pound linebacker has produced right away for the Wildcats. Despite not recording a tackle in the opener against BYU, defensive STAN: coordinator Marcel Yates liked what he saw from Barton and made it a priority to find WSU: him more playing time.
