Introduction On 17.03.2012, the Hon’ble Chief Minister released the Vision 2023 document, which envisages a strategic plan for the comprehensive development of Infrastructure in the State. As far as the Highways and Minor Ports Department is concerned, this far- sighted and visionary document emphasizes the enhancement of 2000 km of roads into six and eight lane Expressway Corridors; the modernization of State Highways covering 5000 km of four lane highways and the conversion of 16,000 km of Other State Highways to two lane roads 1 with paved shoulders, at a proposed investment of Rs.1,33,000 Crore. It further contemplates the development of three large Greenfield Ports and five Minor Ports with an incremental aggregate capacity of 150 million tones to handle dry bulk; imported and domestic coal for power generation, liquid cargo and containerized cargo, at a proposed investment of Rs.15,000 Crore.

Sundaram1, Mr. M. Sriram2 Professor of Commerce 1, Research Scholar, Commerce 2, School of Social Sciences and Languages1, 2 VIT University1, 2 Vellore – 632 014, Tamil Nadu1, 2 INDIA1, 2 Abstract: This study investigates the causes of passengers’ fatality in railways by means of trespass accidents and suicides and to elicit the measures to prevent the death occurrences in Katpadi railway jurisdiction. This study consists of 385 respondents, who are the travelers in Katpadi jurisdiction which has 20 railway stations including Katpadi junction. Under probability sampling, survey method and stratified random sampling is used as the technique for collecting sample in the study area. It is found that 59 people died in railway accidents in the year 2014. It was also found that 30.9 % use foot board on train travel and 34.8 % of the respondents get down from the train before it stops in the railway station and 51.43 % from 385 respondents replied financial problem as the major reason for conduct of suicide and 49.87 % respondents said that family issues provoke the aggrieved person to commit suicide.

    PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT WATER RESOURCES ORGANISATION MADURAI REGION TN – IAMWARM PROJECT KOTTAKARAIYAR SUB BASIN ADDITIONAL DETAILED PROJECT REPORT Estimate Amount: Rs.930.02 Lakhs NODAL DIVISION: SARUGANIYAR BASIN DIVISION SIVAGANGA Additional proposals for providing Lining of Head Irrigation Channel and Flow Measuring Device in Kottakaraiyar sub basin (Phase I) under IAMWARM Project The lining of Head irrigation channel and installation of measuring device has been proposed for Phase I and II sub basins by utilizing the Project Savings as discussed with the World Bank, during the implementation support mission from Sept 12-20th 2011. Accordingly in the Kottakaraiyar sub basin of Phase the following works have been proposed. i) Lining of irrigation Head channel below the tanks sluice using c.c. M 15 as per sketch enclosed ii) Installing flow measuring device in the irrigation channel as per sketch iii) L.S provision of 2.8 % for Provision of labour welfare @ 0.30 % and provision for contingencies, advertisement charges , photographic charges @ 2.5% This proposal comprising of 89 packages for an amount of Rs.930.02lakhs including L.S Provision of Rs.25.35lakhs. lining of head irrigation channel for 18044 m length and installing 437 nos of flow measuring devices in the irrigation channels are proposed in this proposal.
