USEFUL CONTACTS AT MOVIOLA Moviola.org @MoviolaUK 01935 872607 #CommunityCinema 03 We have scoured the film world and picked some of the most exciting, challenging and entertaining titles for you and your audiences to enjoy in the coming months. This seasons’ highlights include: 28 hand-picked film from home- grown talent to indie gems and crowd-pleasers. Moviola.org @MoviolaUK 01935 872607 #CommunityCinema 04 CLOSING DATES: 1st AUGUST (PARTNER VENUES) 10th AUGUST (ASSOCIATE VENUES) If we do not receive your choice for September by these dates, we will not be able to process your booking. Included in this menu are 28 film titles, including 12 Cinematheque specials for you to consider for the September to December season. Please take a moment to read through the introductory notes before jumping straight into the menu (we know it’s exciting!). Even if you are a seasoned Moviola partner, please follow the booking instructions on the next page. This will help us to process your requests quickly and accurately. The Autumn 2019 season starts on Sep 1 and ends on Dec 31. A new menu for next season will be sent to you at the beginning of November Please do not book films for 1st January 2020 or after from this menu. 05 HOW TO BOOK YOUR FILMS Send an email to [email protected] as soon as possible, and not later than 1st AUGUST (for partners, to allow time for production of publicity materials) and 10th AUGUST (for associates). Please send it as a separate email to this one and NOT by pressing reply If you are an associate, state if it is a GOLD or SILVER booking. If you are a partner, make sure you have booked your dates with Christina first, to ensure she can schedule a presenter for you. State your venue name. List the dates and films you would like for SEPT, OCT, NOV, DEC. Give at least TWO spare films in case your first choices are not available (We will always consult you on any substitutions that might be necessary). IMPORTANT NOTES Confirmations When you book your films from Moviola, we will send you a Confirmation Form on which the level of charge for each film is clearly set out. You should read this carefully before replying to Toby to state that it is correct. BUT please see the clause about minimum guarantees below. The confirmation is our agreement to supply films for you for the season and we refer back to it in any case of a query on your invoice. It is also your licence to show the film and your proof for anyone who requests it that you have booked the film properly, so be sure to read it and keep it safe. Minimum Guarantees If a film on the mainstream menu gets at least 10+ bookings across the Moviola network, we can generally offer it with no minimum guarantee attached. However, if it turns out that you are the only venue showing a particular film, then you will be subject to the distributor’s minimum of around £100 for film hire. If this were to be the case we would notify you of the change, and you would have the option to pick a different title. Release Dates While we always try to provide the most accurate release dates for titles on the Moviola Menu, these are open to change, often at very short notice. Due to this, we may have to ask you to change a title or reschedule a date. We will always give the maximum notice we can should a change be necessary. Children’s/Family Films Attracting a sufficient audience to make such films viable is extremely difficult. Young people often want tosee films immediately on release and at the lowest possible cost. Furthermore, these films are only available to us to show once they are on sale to the public. On this menu, we have included the film ‘Fighting With My Family’ which we think is suitable for a 12A audience and has good appeal to families. Help Us Stamp Out Film Piracy All films shown to the public have to pay a licence fee whether or not any ticket price is charged. As a Moviola venue, you operate commercial film shows in exactly the same way as your local multiplex or full- time cinema. You advertise shows and sell tickets, and the film distributors expect a proportion of your sales as film hire. If you find or hear of any venue near you which claims to be operating in a different way - for example advertising free shows or telling you that they get their films cheaper - we would like to know. It is in our interests to ensure that shows are properly licensed. 06 AUTUMN/WINTER MENU - SEPT 1st to DEC 31st Welcome to the Autumn/Winter Menu 2019, covering bookings from September 1st to December 31st . You’ll find several big hitters on the new list of films. Fisherman’s Friends just missed a slot on the last menu, and we’ve been inundated with requests for it. Something light and fun to see out the summer sun, this is sure to be popular. Having had a season off, Dame Judi Dench returns with two new titles this time round. Firstly, as Shakespeare’s wife in Kenneth Branagh’s All Is True, and also in Red Joan as a woman arrested by the British Secret Service for espionage, think Bridge Of Spies meets Another Country. For fans of foreign language films, we have the Cold War drama Balloon, the fascinating true story of a family’s attempts to escape Stasi controlled East Germany in a hot air balloon, and also The White Crow, directed by Ralph Fiennes and looking at the life and defection of Soviet ballet legend Rudolf Nureyev. Later in the season, and continuing onto the January menu, we have the sure-to-be hits Rocketman, the biopic of Elton John, and Yesterday, about a man who wakes after an accident as the only person to remember The Beatles. In December, we will also have the new Ken Loach film, Sorry We Missed You, sure to be as popular and topical as 2016’s I, Daniel Blake, and available to Moviola well before the home entertainment release date. Don’t forget, we are running three more seasons of Cinematheque films until the end of August 2020, and you will find 12 new titles to choose from on this menu. Amongst them is the wonderful Woman At War, about an eco-warrior taking on the heavy industry of Iceland and The Shiny Shrimps, a hilarious look at a disgraced French sportsman coaching a gay water polo team. Also, for fans of classic film, we have the wonderful 70th anniversary reissue of Kind Hearts And Coronets, one of the very finest, if not in fact the greatest of the classic Ealing comedies We hope you enjoy choosing your films for this new season, and as always, if you have any queries, please let one of the team know. Best wishes, Toby All films have a clickable link to the trailer and the BBFC website for detailed classification information. Further information on all the films, including synopses, pictures and reviews, can be found at www.imdb.com. • BAM Announces the Full Lineup for the 10Th Annual Bamcinemafest, A
BAM announces the full lineup for the 10th annual BAMcinemaFest, a festival of American independents featuring 22 New York premieres and three world premieres, Jun 20—Jul 1 Opening night—Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You Closing night—Josephine Decker’s Madeline’s Madeline Centerpiece—Debra Granik’s Leave No Trace Spotlight—Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade & Stephen Maing’s Crime + Punishment Outdoor screening—Kasi Lemmons’ Eve’s Bayou (1997) The Wall Street Journal is the title sponsor for BAMcinemaFest, BAMcinématek, and BAM Rose Cinemas. May 1, 2018/Brooklyn, NY—BAM announces the full lineup for the tenth annual BAMcinemaFest (Jun 20—Jul 1). Described as “filmgoers’ most exhilarating annual opportunity for discovery” (The Village Voice), BAMcinemaFest has evolved into a platform for both emerging and established filmmakers as well as unconventional and often overlooked films. This year’s 12-day festival presents all New York premieres and three world premieres. Gina Duncan, BAM’s Associate Vice President of Cinema explains "We are proud to present work that is compelling, defiant, and ultimately thrilling. It feels appropriate to celebrate the tenth BAMcinemaFest with a line-up of films and filmmakers whose energy and adventurousness hints at something profound taking root. I can't wait to see what it bears." Opening this year’s festival on Wednesday, June 20 is the head-spinningly surreal debut from musician-turned-filmmaker Boots Riley, Sorry to Bother You. Struggling to make ends meet in Oakland, CA, Cassius Green (Lakeith Stanfield) lands a job as a RegalView telemarketer. Realizing perfecting his “white voice” is the key to his monetary success, Green soon discovers it’s not without considerable consequences.
