At approximately 6:20 am on March 22nd, a Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Engine Company responded to an internal alarm in a commercial building at Gibbons Drive and Walnut Avenue. Upon arrival the crew found the building charged with smoke and immediately called for assistance, requesting a commercial structure response. This 1st alarm assignment made an interior fire attack on the building with heavy fire involvement overhead. The incident quickly escalated to a 2 alarm fire 11 minutes later, then a 3rd alarm 13 minutes after that. As the 3rd alarm assignments responded to the scene, the Incident Commander ordered all personnel out of the building as concern grew over building collapse. The operations at that point became defensive rather than offensive.
