We have matched these names against the list of registered Ketchum voters and have over 500, not including the other signers from Blaine County that will be greatly impacted by this project. I'm also attaching a list of comments that were posted on the petition site. I trust the Mayor and Council will review this in detail. We have another petition that will be submitted that is not be overlapping. I sincerely trust, that the Mayor and Council will review all responses very seriously and conclude the people of Ketchum that are taxpayers, voters and live in our town don't want this project with any variances not including the hotel itself in some cases. This city does not belong to developers and/or developers influencing a small group of people. Our support group is very well organized and prepared to challenge the developer and ensure we explore all options should this project move forward in its current state. It must be reviewed with our residents interest in mind. We appreciate your time and consideration and trust these documents will be posted to the City website. I have also attached a list of supporters, most of whom are Ketchum voters with the balance being part time residents. Unlike the P&Z meeting, we are formally requesting that our opposition is heard at the forthcoming September 16th and October 7th meetings. We were surprised based on the opposition at the P&Z meeting; there were no requests to scale down the current scope of this project. As we reached out to Ketchum residents, we were surprised to learn how many were unaware of this project and the permanent impact it will have on the entire City of Ketchum. The impact is outlined in our letter. Nevertheless, we expect our opposition base to this project will continue growing and reach 750 - 1,000 registered voters. Yes, each registered voter in the City of Ketchum will receive the facts and based on a Data Science background, we will hit our goal. These are meaningful numbers and should prompt the Mayor and City Council to look hard at our arguments and not fast track this type of project in the future. Best regards, Kevin Livingston 415-596-4336 On Thursday, September 5, 2019, 02:42:29 PM PDT, Robert Adolph > wrote: Hello Mayor and Council Members – I am enclosing a position letter I wrote last July 17 to the P&Z regarding the numerous waivers being considered for the above referenced project. This should be included in the Council’s agenda package. Basically, I believe the project should not be approved unless its size and scale fall within the Tourist zoning, receives no waivers above a height of 35’ and observes all setbacks. This can be done by reducing the number of rooms and overall size and/or moving employee housing offsite to a separate structure. At a height of 72’, it exceeds even the four-floor PUD hotel exceptions to the Tourist zone by playing blatant topographical games. The site is an under-sized one acre when three acres are required. The proposal seems to piggy-back heavily on prior waivers granted many years ago to other proposed hotels -- but none of those projects has ever been built and are not legitimate comparisons. And the developer here wants a gift of City owned property carved out of River Street. The Limelight Hotel is, by contrast, in the CC Zone and its height and scale did not exceed the zoning. Additionally, the traffic study fails to adequately resolve serious bottleneck and safety issues at the corner of River and Main (which is already a pronounced rush hour problem). Rhetorically, one could even question why Ketchum needs or wants another 100 room hotel with a current glut of rooms, rental condos, and airbnbs in the greater Ketchum/Sun Valley area. I understand many Ketchum hotels suffer from low occupancy rates already. As elected officials, you may want to review the Stop the Ketchum Marriott Petition currently gathering signatures on the Change.Org website, posted by concerned voters. It has now close to 200 signatures opposing the hotel (in only a few days) and likely will have many more prior to the September 16 hearing date. These concerned citizens are voters who have a strong voice. It seems the overwhelming public sentiment is firmly against turning Ketchum into another touristy Vail Village with its large chain hotels. Thank you for considering this submission. Robert J. • “Covering” the Bluesman from a Distance
Introduction In many ways, my journey towards this thesis topic began with my brother’s music collection. Throughout my teens he would introduce me to a wide range of local and international acts, many of which were influenced by African-American blues artists. This influence is evident in both their construction of sound and the old songs that they rerecorded. From there I began tracing musical influences from song credits and interview excerpts—a path often travelled by musicians and fans alike—that would eventually lead me to an appreciation of blues music. The penultimate step towards this topic came in the form of my honours thesis—a creative project that involved rerecording several tracks from the catalogue of an early Australian country music artist, one of which was titled “Blue Mountain Blues”.1 From there I turned to blues music in Australia. Initially conceived as a history of “Australian blues”, it became apparent that this proposed sub-genre struggled to unify and explain the disparate musical styles contained therein. Although each artist was clearly addressing the musical characteristics and influences I had come to recognise as “blues music”, it all sounded different. In the meantime, I developed a keen interest in a fellow colleague’s thesis topic that addressed the role of “covers” within the Australian music industry (Giuffre, 2005). My epiphany—and catalyst for the current thesis topic—eventually presented itself while viewing a live performance from Peter Green Splinter Group. The concert was split into two courses: an acoustic entrée featuring several Robert Johnson “covers”; and, an electric main with side dishes of early Fleetwood Mac material—the band Green had help found many years ago.
