For Immediate Release: Friday, May 31, 2002 All-Americans TUCSON, Ariz. — The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams were announced today which have a potent mix of pitching and offense. The 17-man first team, chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features 12 conference players or of the year, including: • LHP Justin Simmons, ( of Year Big 12 Conference) • RHP , Stanford (Pitcher of Year Pac-10 Conference) • RHP , Ball State (Pitcher of Year Mid-American Conference) • RHP John Tetuan, Wichita State (Pitcher of Year Missouri Valley Conference) • RHP Brad Sullivan, Houston (Pitcher of Year Conference USA) • RHP , Richmond (Pitcher of Year Atlantic 10 Conference) • C Jed Morris, Nebraska (Player of Year Big 12 Conference) • 1B Nate Gold, Gonzaga (Player of Year West Coast Conference) • 2B Rickie Weeks, Southern (Player of Year Southwestern Athletic Conference) • SS , Clemson (Player of Year Atlantic Coast Conference) • OF Steve Stanley, Notre Dame (Player of Year Big East Conference) • OF Bob Malek, Michigan State (Player of Year Big Ten Conference) The first team features six starting pitchers who posted a combined 69-8 record with an ERA of 2.16. Ball State's Bryan Bullington leads first team All-American pitchers with 139 . Richmond's Tim Stauffer posted an amazing 12 complete games in 16 starts this season. The offense features power, line drive hitters and speed. The first team belted 175 homers (average 18.5 per player). Seven 21 or more doubles this season. As far as speed, Notre Dame's Steve Stanley led first teamers with 31. The first team also features Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of The Year in SS Khalil Greene of Clemson. Greene's .475 batting average is second in Atlantic Coast Conference history for a season. He also belted 22 homers and 25 doubles during a mammoth offensive season. He has re-written the Clemson and ACC record books. He ranks first in ACC history and second in NCAA history with 384 career hits. He enters regional action with a 27-game hitting streak, third longest in Clemson history. The following are the first, second and third team Louisville Slugger All-Americans for the 2002 season.
