The Lillbacka Global line of roll-on/roll-off (or Ro-Ro) ships are vessels designed to carry wheeled cargo such as automobiles, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, trailers or railroad cars that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels. Three Lillbacka Global vessels complement the transportation logistics by transporting freight between the southern ports in Finland and northern Germany. GEIB – The Hose Fabrication Experts GEIB, Franklin Park, IL, is a leading hose distributor and fabricator. What sets GEIB apart from its competitors is its wide scope of products. “Our product line consists of hydraulic, metal, industrial, TeSon (PTFE), thermoplastic, and composite hose,” explains Chris Geib, president. “There aren’t many hose houses that have the capacity to fabricate all those types and styles of hose. Hose is all we do…and we really focus on it.”

The company has a 32,200-square foot facility with 52 employees. It provides multiple types of services, including:

They were very slow and had very low tonnage. In addition, the older crimpers had huge footprints. We replaced them with the Finn-Power crimpers. We purchased Rve Finn-Power crimpers because we are using them in such a diverse way. We are a job shop…not a production house. We crimp small lots of 5, 10, 15, 20 units. Each Finn-Power crimper is performing a different service for the various different styles of hoses that we sell.” Customer Prole 7

Quick Change Tool System Another Finn-Power crimper feature that GEIB likes is the Quick Change Tool System (QC), which allows the entire die set to be changed in one easy operation. The pins on the QC Tool engage the QC holes in the dies. As the master dies open/close, the die segments are released from the master dies and retained by the QC tool. The die segments are held to the tool by a magnet. The die set then can be stored in the QC storage rack. In this way, the segments are kept in complete sets and are always used in the same order. “The speed of the Finn-Power crimper is de,nitely a bene,t, both in the stroke of the crimping and in the ability to quickly change dies.”

“The speed of the Finn-Power crimper is deRnitely a beneRt, both in the stroke of the crimping and in the ability to quickly change dies,” explains Geib. “Because we are a job shop, we change on every order. The order has 6 or 7 line items, and 80% of the time each one of these different line items will need to have a different die change.

Crimp integrity Integrity of the crimp is very important for Geib. “We have a tremendous maintenance schedule, and the Finn-Power crimpers are extremely sturdy and reliable. They keep their ovality, and the crimp spec is always right on.” “We have a tremendous maintenance schedule, and the Finn-Power crimpers are extremely sturdy and reliable. Crimper opens new business opportunities “We bought the CC25 high-speed Finn-Power crimper for a niche application where we supply an OEM in China who fabricates the product and sends it back to the US,” says Geib. “While the rest of the assembly has gone offshore, the speed of the crimper has

If there is a problem, Lillbacka’s service techs respond the same or next day.”

“New customers often visit our facility,“ continues Geib. “They are impressed by the ease of use of the Finn-Power crimpers and their attractive appearance. The crimpers really help us sell our facility. There is a lot of engineering in the crimpers. They are very reliable, the hardest working, and the most durable. Tube Fabrication With Finn-Power Crimpers D & W Mfg., Chicago, IL, is a fabricator and distributor of metal tubing. The company traces its roots to the 1940s, and today produces tubular products for OEMs, stocking over 50 diameters of the most popular of OD and gauge thin wall mechanical steel tubing available for immediate delivery. While the majority of its product line is carbon steel mechanical tubing, the company also sells brass, aluminum, stainless steel, black iron pipe, and reeded tubing.

The Finn-Power FP120 from Lillbacka is a high-speed, high production model that has a crimping force of up to 280 tons. It quickly adjusts and crimps to an exact dimension and can adjust in .01 mm increments. The FP120 is designed with soft and even die movement, using a twin-pump hydraulic system which eliminates pressure shock during crimping. The FP120 crimping machine is designed to handle large jobs with optimal crimping force, speed, and efRciency. These models are full-scale production units. What distinguishes them are their larger die opening, strength, and speed. These production units can accommodate small and larger assemblies. Their large pass- through head design makes them ideal for crimping elbow assemblies, Sange pieces, and oddly-shaped parts. Customer Prole 11
