Message to the Nation by Dr the Honourable Keith
MESSAGE TO THE NATION BY DR THE HONOURABLE KEITH ROWLEY, MP PRIME MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO ON THE OCCASION OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO’S 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE 31 August 2017 Fellow Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of our Independence, many of us would be mindful of our journey as a nation. As a Small Island Developing State, our ability to navigate the journey of nationhood has always depended on our creativity, our willingness to work hard and our ability to stand firm together as a nation. In order to continue on the path of growth and development, we the people are mandated to foster a strong patriotism as well as our own capacity to take full advantage of opportunities through clear focus, grit and determination. Despite our challenges, I believe that Trinidad and Tobago continues to live up to the promise and potential we demonstrated in 1962 and we can ill-afford to falter now. We must strengthen our democratic institutions and implement policies that are tailored to our specific conditions and developmental objectives. In so doing, we will increase our chances of success exponentially. Earlier this month, the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago received an incredible pre – Independence Day gift. We witnessed our fantastic four – Jarrin Solomon, Jareem Richards, Machel Cedenio and Lalonde Gordon – bring home our country’s first ever gold medal in the 4×400 metres relay event at the recently concluded IAAF World Championships in London, England. A few days earlier, Jareem Richards had made his mark in the 200m event claiming a bronze medal for the country. -

Eastern Track Vol. 30--April 25, 2006 2006 Penn Relays Preview Well, it doesn’t look like we’re going to get the warm weather everyone always hopes for, with highs in the low 60s expected for the best three days of the year--Penn Relays weekend! But at least it looks like it will be a dry three days, so let’s be thankful for that. Most of the familiar faces will be back this year, but two newcomers may run away with the coveted Championship “wheels” and Relays watches. Oral Roberts and Canada’s Simon Fraser are favored in the men’s and women’s 4800 relays. Here’s an event-by-event look at the 112th running of the Penn Relays. Bib numbers/letters are listed where available. Be sure to buy the Penn Relays program--the best in the sport! TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY April 25,26 15. “Small Schools” 10:30am. 1. College Men Decathlon 11:00am Heat One-Holmwood Tech(AH) returns Bobbi-Gaye Wilkins and LSU senior Darion Powell(#1), a transfer from Washington Vanessa Boyd from last year’s winning team and could win the State, was 3rd in the heptathlon at last month’s NCAA Indoor final without 400-specialist Sonita Sutherland, who ran 2:08.80 at Championships. Mt.St.Mary’s Devin Barry(#4), the 2006 IC4A the Jamaican Champs. The school ran 8:47.26 without SUtherland Heptathlon Champion, would love to present retiring coach Jim back in February. Other potential finalists include Bay Deegan with the school’s 9th Penn winner in this event. -
