I am reading a book by Edward Bullmore entitled The Inflamed Mind. It reminds me of my journey on the way to pursuing a career in neuroimmunology where I took a side trip to support research in Zinc in Biology. I then returned to the place where I left the field and found it was part of my tapestry all along. Meanwhile many wonderful discoveries have been made that can shape the future of medicine in America. There are many scientists now exploring the role of inflammation in many diseases accepting the possible roles that controlling inflammation can have on reducing disease and discomfort. That may also be an answer for the Inflamed state of our country. We can request that others join us in a Peace march toward truth with kinder but clear words. By being conversant on our platform issues, we may be able to turn the tide to mutually respectful discussion instead of the trend of inflaming emotions to create division. Let’s move forward with a common goal of bringing unity back to America.

Take a step issue by issue to listen to the Praeger University lessons on our important platform issues. Climate Change is explained in clear language so you can explain the truth about the data explained by Professor Richard Lindzen from MIT and Bjorn Lomborg from the Copenhagen Consensus. Border Security makes logical sense when the facts are presented by those who have experience in our national defense.

An interview with the author of Alienated America was another call to action. One of the targets of the left is our churches. We need to lead by example and live a life of joy filled service to others bringing our children and grandchildren back to the warmth of community experienced in our houses of worship. When they feel welcome we strengthen our Judeo Christian national tradition. There is a cultural war emerging against the values that built our strong unified country. We must stand with those who are willing to speak the truth so they can withstand the pressures challenging their freedom of speech.

Candace Owens spoke at the recent CPAC conference with passion and clarity about her commitment to American values. She has been verbally attacked with many leftists trying to keep her off college campuses for fear that young adults might follow her reasoning learning to think for themselves. She is a brave young women deserving of our encouragement! Please send her a note! There are many ways each of us can join together to ensure a better world for our families beginning by standing together for Truth! Join us to hear our Sheriff Henry Trouchesset share the truth about national security and bring a friend to join our passion for a United States of America! Make your reservations now for March 20th!

LEGISLATIVE CORNER Barbara Roberts, 2nd Vice President, GRW [email protected] (713) 516-5333

Important Notice: With the exception of Mayes Middleton, I am not receiving information from our elected officials about their legislative actions. If you are the spouse, a staff member, a friend, or a contributor to an elected official, please ask them to contact me about their legislative actions. I realize it’s a busy time of the year, but GRW supported, and we contributed to, and helped elect our representatives. They should keep us informed and I need your help in encouraging them to do so.

SB 2 and HB 2 have been voted out of committee. These identical bills pertain to limiting the growth of city and county property tax revenue on existing developments to 2.5%. Mayes Middleton has asked GRW to help get these bills passed. Please contact representatives urging them to vote in favor of these bills.

The wants to develop Pelican Island, which would bring more industry, jobs, and economic benefit to the County of Galveston. For the past 20 years, the Port of Houston has owned approximately 1100 acres on Pelican Island and does not intend to develop the property within the next 50 to 70 years, if ever. The Port of Houston also owns property on Port Bolivar and again has no intention to develop it. The Port of Houston purchased these properties to stop Galveston from developing the properties. The Port of Houston pays no property taxes on these properties. Mayes Middleton has filed a bill which would prohibit ports or navigation districts from owning real property that is not in their jurisdictions. The bill also requires the Port of Houston to substantially develop these properties within two years or to sell the property to a for- profit organization or company and the bill also would require the Port of Houston to pay Galveston the equivalent of unpaid property taxes, which is approximately $15 million.

This month we change to Daylight Savings Time. Once again, bills have been filed in both the House and Senate that would abolish daylight savings time as we know it. Proponents of the bills argue daylight savings time is inconvenient and an antiquated practice dating back to World War I. They also argue that daylight savings time leaves school children waiting at bus stops early in the morning when it’s still dark outside and giving parents trouble when they must put kids to bed although it’s still light outside. One State Rep., a Democrat, has said he’s opposed to ending daylight savings time because he would have to choose between going to church and watching the Dallas Cowboys games on Sundays. He’s worried that Sunday football would start at 11 a.m. instead of noon during the early part of the fall season when daylight savings time would usually be in effect. However, I’ve heard that sometimes more praying occurs at Dallas Cowboys games than occurs in churches. I suggest a bill be passed establishing a State holiday on the Monday following the change to Daylight Savings Time. GALVESTON REPUBLICAN WOMEN MISSION  Promote an informed public through political education and activity.  Increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government.  Work for the election of Republican candidates to foster loyalty to the Republican Party and to promote its principles.  Juneteenth Celebration: , Thurs, June 13th - 6:30 pm GRW will once again participate in this event being held at: Ashton Villa - 2328 Broadway, Galveston, Tx. Ashton Villa has served as the site to commemorate the modern reading of the Emancipation Proclamation for more than 25 years. Former Texas Representative Al Edwards, the composer of the bill that made Juneteenth a Texas state holiday, has been a part of the Ashton Villa celebration each year. About Juneteenth: On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger issued General Order #3 in Galveston to inform the people of Texas that a proclamation from President Abraham Lincoln deemed that all slaves were free. This message took more than two and a half years to reach Texas. Juneteenth celebrations commemorating the freedom of Texas' 250,000 slaves started in Galveston and are now observed throughout America. More than 24 states recognize this day as a state holiday or have some official form of observance.

 Our 1st Responders and Veterans GRW continues to recognize and honor our 1st Responders and Veterans for their service and commitment to keeping us from harm’s way.

 The Pregnancy Center of Galveston This locally funded non-profit organization serves individuals in crisis pregnancy in Galveston. GRW continues to supports them in this endeavor.
