Notes • Submitting feeds to Samsung Podcasts will not prevent submission to other platforms. • Samsung Podcasts will not re-cache or re-host audio content. • These guidelines are meant to reflect requirements used by other standard podcast platforms. • Some requirements are meant to support future V2 features, marked in red. Samsung Proprietary and Confidential 2 RSS Feed Requirements Samsung Proprietary and Confidential 3 Feed Requirements: Podcast “Podcast” is defined as an ordered collection of episodes. A podcast must: • Be described by a valid RSS feed that conforms to RSS 2.0 specifications • Be freely reachable, not requiring login, token, or similar information • Be uniquely defined by its <link> field (Samsung Podcasts will handle a podcast as a new podcast if this field changes) Samsung Podcasts will use podcast metadata accessed via the <link> field. Podcasters will need to ensure that artwork files are valid, reachable, and accurate. Samsung Podcasts may choose to cache artwork and metadata to optimize performance, but will not cache or re-host audio data. Unreachable or uninterpretable RSS feeds will be disabled by Samsung Podcasts. Please ensure that explicit words in Podcast titles and descriptions are censored in your metadata before submitting. Failure to censor explicit words could result in suspension of content from the platform. 4 Feed Requirements: Episode “Episode” is defined as an audio segment expressed through an audio file. Methods of researching the contribution of social tagging and folksonomy are described, and outstanding research questions are presented. This is a new area of research, where theoretical perspectives and relevant research methods are only now being defined. This paper provides a framework for the study of folksonomy, tagging and social tagging systems. Three broad approaches are identified, focusing first, on the folksonomy itself (and the role of tags in indexing and retrieval); secondly, on tagging (and the behaviour of users); and thirdly, on the nature of social tagging systems (as socio-technical frameworks). Elrod, University of Michigan, USA Abstract: Streaming technologies continue to shift audience viewing practices. However, aside from addressing how these developments allow for more complex serialized streaming television, not much work has approached concerns of specific genres that fall under the field of digital streaming. How do emergent and encouraged modes of viewing across various SVOD platforms re-shape how audiences affectively experience and interact with genre and generic texts? What happens to collective audience discourses as the majority of viewers’ situated consumption of new serial content becomes increasingly accelerated, adaptable, and individualized? Given the range and diversity of genres and fandoms, which often intersect and overlap despite their current fragmentation across geographies, platforms, and lines of access, why might it be pertinent to reconfigure genre itself as a site or node of affective experience and interactive, collective production? Finally, as studies of streaming television advance within the industry and academia, how might we ponder on a genre-by- genre basis, fandoms’ potential need for time and space to collectively process and interact affectively with generic serial texts – in other words, to consider genres and generic texts themselves as key mediative sites between the contexts of production and those of fans’ interactivity and communal, affective pleasure? This article draws together threads of commentary from the industry, scholars, and culture writers about SVOD platforms, emergent viewing practices, speculative genres, and fandoms to argue for the centrality of genre in interventions into audience studies. -

Slade III This dissertation investigates the experiences of participants in a text-based virtual reality known as a Multi-User Domain, or MUD. Through in-depth electronic interviews, staff members and players of Aurealan Realms MUD were queried regarding the impact of their participation in the MUD on their perceived sense of self, community, and culture. Second, the interviews were subjected to a qualitative thematic analysis through which the nature of the participant’s phenomenological lived experience is explored with a specific eye toward any significant over or interconnection between each participant’s virtual and material experiences. An extended analysis of the experiences of respondents, combined with supporting material from other academic investigators, provides a map with which to chart the synchronous and synonymous relationship between a participant’s perceived sense of material identity, community, and culture, and her perceived sense of virtual identity, community, and culture. -

Guide for writing a “journal blog” or “reflective blog” What is a reflective blog and why should you use one? (Adapted from Professor Wayne Iwaoka, the University of Hawaii at Manoa and UMaine’s SMS 491/EDW 472/SMS416). The blog is used in this class as a modern replacement to the more traditional journal. It is an instrument for practicing writing and thinking. Unlike your typical class notes in which you “passively” record data/information given to you by an instructor your blog should reflect upon lessons you have learned-- a personal record of your educational experience in the class. Maintaining a blog serves several purposes: • A means of communication, conversation (e.g., between material and yourself, yourself and instructors). • Provides regular feedback between you and instructors and helps to match expectations. • Platform for synthesis of new knowledge and ideas. • Helps to develop critical thinking. • Helps to elicit topics of interest, challenging topics that need improvement, etc. • Help to clarify troublesome concepts. These have led to the development and evolution of Web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites (i.e. Facebook, MySpace), video sharing sites (i.e. YouTube), wikis, blogs, etc. Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to any actual change in technical specifications, but rather to changes in the ways software developers and end- users utilize the Web. Web 2.0 is a catch-all term used to describe a variety of developments on the Web and a perceived shift in the way it is used. This shift can be characterized as the evolution of Web use from passive consumption of content to more active participation, creation and sharing. What is a podcast? The term podcast comes from a combination of iPod and Broadcast. Thus, it is a broadcast that is created to be listened to on a digital device of some kind: iPod or other MP3 player, SmartPhone, iPad or other tablet, or computer. A podcast can be entertainment, music, drama, sermon, health, business, or other coaching information. It is an MP3 file just like any song that you may listen to – only much larger. When you subscribe to my blog, you can simply listen by clicking the Play button embedded in the blog post. However, you may want to listen away from your computer. You can subscribe to podcasts and have them automatically delivered to your MP3 player for you to listen to whenever you wish. Or you can go out and listen from a site like iTunes or Stitcher. If you have a SmartPhone or Tablet, you can install an app that will collect these podcasts for you. Subscribing in iTunes You must have an iTunes account and have iTunes on your device. Microblogging Tool That Allows Users to Post Brief, 140-Character Messages -- Called "Tweets" -- and Follow Other Users' Activities
MICRO-BLOGGING AND PERFORMANCE APPS AND SITES Instagram lets users snap, edit, and share photos and 15-second videos, either publicly or with a private network of followers. It unites the most popular features of social media sites: sharing, seeing, and commenting on photos. It also lets you apply fun filters and effects to your photos, making them look high-quality and artistic. What parents need to know • Teens are on the lookout for "likes." Similar to the way they use Facebook, teens may measure the "success" of their photos -- even their self-worth -- by the number of likes or comments they receive. Posting a photo or video can be problematic if teens are posting to validate their popularity. • Public photos are the default. Photos and videos shared on Instagram are public unless privacy settings are adjusted. Hashtags and location information can make photos even more visible to communities beyond a teen's followers if his or her account is public. • Private messaging is now an option. Instagram Direct allows users to send "private messages" to up to 15 mutual friends. These pictures don't show up on their public feeds. Although there's nothing wrong with group chats, kids may be more likely to share inappropriate stuff with their inner circles. Tumblr is like a cross between a blog and Twitter: It's a streaming scrapbook of text, photos, and/or videos and audio clips. Users create and follow short blogs, or "tumblogs," that can be seen by anyone online (if made public). Many teens have tumblogs for personal use: sharing photos, videos, musings, and things they find funny with their friends.
