MAKING SVECH HAPPEN Andrei Svechnikov recorded an assist in his 200th career NHL/Hurricanes game tonight. Selected by Carolina with the second overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, he is the first player from his draft class to play 200 career NHL games. He has now tallied 135 points (57g, 78a) in his NHL/Hurricanes career, which leads all players drafted in 2018. Svechnikov ranks third in assists and fourth in goals and points in team history (since relocation) among players in their first 200 career NHL games.

PESCATARIAN Brett Pesce tallied an assist tonight in his 400th career NHL/Hurricanes game. He is the 10th defenseman in franchise history and the sixth since relocation to skate in 400 games with the team. He has now earned 25 points (4g, 21a) in 2020-21, marking the second-highest single-season point total of his NHL/Hurricanes career (2018-19: 7-22—29) and his most points through 50 games played in any season. Pesce (2015-21: +64) entered tonight’s game trailing only (2015-21: +72) and (1984-91: +71) for the highest plus/minus by a defenseman in franchise history.

RODDY POSITIVITY Tonight, Rod Brind’Amour coached his 200th game since taking over as Hurricanes in 2018-19. He has now led Carolina to a 117-64- 19 record in three seasons with the team, and with a standings point at DAL on Monday, he became the first head coach in franchise history to clinch a postseason berth in each of his first three seasons behind the bench. His .633 points percentage ranks 15th in NHL history by a head coach in his first 200 career games and third among active NHL head coaches (Todd McLellan: .683, : .643).

WELCOME BACK Teuvo Teravainen earned two points (1g, 1a) tonight in his second game in the lineup since missing 32 of 33 games from 2/20-4/26. His last point came on 2/19 vs. CHI, when he registered two assists. His goal marked his 300th career NHL point, and his 0.68 points per game (443 GP) trails only (NSH, 0.78) for the highest scoring rate by any player selected in the 2012 NHL Draft. Brady Skjei also scored a goal in his return to the lineup after missing the last four games (4/22-4/27) due to a concussion. He has now scored two goals in his last three games played (also 4/19 at TBL) after scoring one goal in his first 50 games with Carolina.

SUPER BASS Sebastian Aho recorded an assist tonight to extend his season-long assist and point streaks. He has now tallied a point in six consecutive games (4/20-4/29: 3g, 7a), and he has posted an assist in four consecutive games (4/24-4/29: 6a). The assist marked his team-leading 50th point of the season, and he has now joined (2003-09) as the second player in team history (since relocation) to post 50 or more points in four of his first five career NHL seasons. Aho also registered 49 points (24g, 25a) as a rookie in 2016-17.

GET TO THE POINT With a win tonight, the Hurricanes improved to 33-10-7 (73 points) in 2020-21, marking the second-most standings points through the first 50 games of any season in franchise history. Carolina started the season 35-11-4 (74 points) in 2005-06. The team has now posted a .730 points percentage this season, which ranks second in the NHL behind only VGK (34-11-2: .745). The Hurricanes also extended their point streak to nine games (4/15- 4/29: 6-0-3), marking their longest streak of games played without a regulation loss this season and their longest such streak since the franchise- record run of 13 games from 3/9/17-3/30/17 (9-0-4).

SPECIAL TEAMS - Carolina went 0-for-3 on the power play tonight and is now 41-for-151 (27.2%) on the man-advantage this season. The Hurricanes were 1-for-1 on the kill and are now 135-for-160 (84.4%) on the kill this season. - Detroit went 0-for-1 on the power play tonight and is now 15-for-139 (10.8%) on the man-advantage this season. The Red Wings were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and are now 115-for-148 (77.8%) on the kill this season.
