Observers at Love Field said they saw it from the airport's Free Beer Bust and 751/. Cape Cods, Bloody Marys & Screwdrivers air-traffic control tower. Astronomer Gawne remarked that it was very unusual for a meteor of this size to EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT· THE HEADLINERS appear. He said it was part of the 10-day Epsilon Perseid meteor steam. SUPERNOVA MYSTERY - There are new photos that show a mysterious compa- nion near a recently discovered supernova. The new companion appears to be only two light-weeks from the supernova. And the new companion continues to defy ex- planation by astronomers. The discovery was recently made by four stargazers from the Harvard University- Smithsonian Center while they were scanning the sky from Chile. The large object is the closest supernova to Earth, about 400 light-years away. Because it is so close, it becomes the first supernova to be studied by modern instruments. . "One possible explanation for the existence of a second source [the companion] IS that it could be a large cloud of dust or gas reflecting light from the supernova," said Peter Nisenson, one of the discoverers.
