t seemed that the USG's recent Open Forum raised more questions than it answered, and one in particular: who actually runs this place? I Going by the fairly vague answers given to student's more technical questions on budgeting and finances, none of the administrators who appeared—including a vice-president and a dean— have much control over or input into the economics of the University, nor, for that matter, can any of them explain it very well. This shouldn't be too surprising. Fordham, like any bureaucracy, has many levels of authority; everyone has his or her own responsibilities, leaving little time to figure out how the University works as a whole. There are few people who really do understand "the big picture," or who can at least try to explain it. Perhaps the University President, Fr. O'Hare, could; theoretically, members of the Board of Trustees should understand the reasons behind the vital decisions that they make. For the day-to-day running of the school, however, Executive Vice President Cam- marosano is the person who really does know what's going on—and was probably the one person who could have answered the questions thafwere asked at the forum. USG members said that Cammarosano was invited, but did not attend because of his busy schedule and because there was no set subject for the forum. If that's true, the future forums should be organized around spe- cific topics—one on the dorm, one on the budget, one on the new curricu- lum—and the people who actually can answer those questions should be invited. If this particular Open Forum had been advertised as concerning the general topic of "student life," then perhaps betters questions could have been prepared and better answers could have been given; as it was, stu- dents and administrators alike just talked in circles. Considering the prob- lems we face, the last thing we need is more aimless talk. Pete Townshend Another Scoop More musings from the vaults of rock's last honest man. This second helping of home demos and projects contains skeletal versions of early Who classics like "Substitute" "The Kids are Alright", "Happy Jack" and "Christmas". But the fully-realized tracks like "The Shout", "Ask Yourself," "Girl in a Suitcase," and "Never Ask Me" are the real gems here. "Viscious Interlude" showcases both the pratfalls of home recording and Townshend's celebrated temper, while his boozy rendition of "You Better You Bet" has more teeth than the Who's more-studied reading. Encompassing a life-time of composing and experimentation, Another Scoop is testament to Townshend's contribution to the rock and roll form. You don't have to be a Who fan to like this album. • Stanley Kubrick's -T.W.
