CLASH ON THE CLAY DRAWS RECORD CROWD The first ever VillageWalk "Clash on the Clay" all attendance records as the Naples Pro League put on an exclusive exhibition match for The Players at VillageWalk. Over 100 people participated in the evenings activities. The weather couldn’t have been better as friends and neighbors dined under a chalet styled tent, set up especially for the event. After dinner, attendees lined court one and witnessed a level of tennis that can only be described as spectacular. Representing the four teams and sponsors of the Pro League were Roddy Cantey and Ben Berven for ProAm Tennis, Jose Pastrello and Kevin Swank for Yamron Jewelers, Tyler and Eric Manring for Boston Retirement Advisors and Tim Keegan with Jerome Moenter representing Samotin Orthopaedics. With ProAm and Yamron kicking off the first round, The Players guests immediately realized they were in for a treat. While the level of play was off the charts, the fun and banter among the players allowed the spectators to be part of the action. Cantey and Berven pushed their way past Pastrello and Swank, though not without a lot of pushing back from the Yamron duo. When the match hit 8-8, the decision was left to a tie-break ending in ProAm's favor. Next up it was the Manring brothers, Tyler and Eric, against Jerome Moenter and Tim Keegan. Again, the match was a showcase of fast and furious action highlighted by a ridiculous showdown of overhead slams. In the end, Keegan and Moenter came out on top, 8-5. With the final showdown set between ProAm Tennis and Samotin Orthopaedics, the crowd seemed to move in a little closer. Cantey and Berven had been sitting on the sidelines for an hour. Taking a few minutes to warm up, the ProAm partners focused on at hand. But the hot hand was with Moenter and Keegan. Still fired up from the win over Eric and Tyler Manring, they proved too tough to tame. Cantey and Berven would have to settle for second place on the night as Moenter and Keegan took the win 8 games to 3. Thanks to everyone who came out and made this evening special, especially the players from the Naples Pro League. The matches were highly competitive with an incredible level of play. You can find out more about the Naples Pro League at http://www.naplesproleague.com A special thank you to volunteers: Karen Macallister, Doug Macallister, David Bushey, Vera Stec, Barbara Wormser, Herbert Wormser, Steve Mulloy, Gail Mulloy.
