GIS-Assisted Carbon Stock Assessment of Loboc- Bilar Mahogany Plantation, Bohol, Philippines JESAM 77 Journal of Environmental Science and Management 22-1: 77-86 (June 2019) ISSN 0119-1144 GIS-assisted Carbon Stock Assessment of Loboc- Bilar Mahogany Plantation, Bohol, Philippines JESAM ABSTRACT The study determined the carbon budget of the Loboc-Bilar Mahogany (Swietenia Tomas D. Reyes, Jr.1 macrophylla King.) Plantation in the province of Bohol, Philippines within the months of June to October 2018. The plantation straddles two municipalities, Loboc and Bilar. It is a popular destination for local and international tourists due to its compelling tunnel-like vegetative scenery. Delineation of the plantation boundary was fine-tuned using both image digitization and ground survey. A random sampling method was applied in conjunction with Geographic Information System (GIS) software to spatially distribute sampling plots in the research area. Several carbon pools were assessed, namely: aboveground biomass, necromass or ground biomass, and belowground biomass. Allometric and other mathematical equations were used in the calculation of biomass density, stored carbon and carbon dioxide equivalents. The major river systems include the Wahig-Inabanga River (Inabanga), Ipil River (Trinidad), Soom River (Ubay), Caru-od River (Candijay), Lumbay River (Anda-Guindulman), Manaba River (Garcia Hernandez), Loboc River (Loay-Loboc), Panampan River (Dimiao), Abatan River (Cortes-Maribojoc), Moalong River (Loon) and Alejawan River (Duero). Bohol has three major watersheds, all of which have been declared as protected areas under the National Integrated Protected Area System (NIPAS). The. Staty shall conserve, promote, and popularize the nation's historical and cultural heri~age and resources, as well as artistic creations"; WHEREAS, the Constitution, Article 14, Section 16 provides that "All the country's artistic and historic wealth constitutes the cult~ral treasure of the nation and , shall be under the protection of the State which may regulate its disposition"; WHEREAS, various news agencies have reported on the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that hit Bohol, Cebu, and parts of Mindanaq and southern Luzon last- IS October 2013, killing at least 180 people, leaving at least ~80 people injured, displacing 676,000 families or almost 3.5 million individuals, causihg centuries-old churches and modern buildings to crumble, disrupting power and phone services, and causing an estimated P867 million in infrastructure damage; WHEREAS, among the earthquake's reported ca~ualties were the churches of Loboc and Baclayon, two of the local churches
