FORESTRY @BANGOR ALUMNI 2020 Newsletter FORESTRY @BANGOR ALUMNI 2020 Newsletter Welcome from the Vice-Chancellor I am delighted to present to you a fantastic collation of just some of the many highlights relating to forestry at Bangor University over the past two years. In many ways, forestry epitomises the spirit of Bangor University: a bold, traditional, international and dynamic university. Perhaps what strikes me most about this newsletter is the incredible achievements of our students who take such pride in, and responsibility for, their own learning through the Bangor Forestry Students’ Association. It is a very rare student society that has the ambition to successfully take on the hosting a nine-day international meeting of forestry students and professionals! In time, current students will transform into alumni and young professionals with the capacity to make hugely positive contributions to society, to livelihoods, to biodiversity and to the health of our planet. And as measured by the achievements of our many alumni from the forestry and related programmes, the bar has been set very high, providing us all with inspiration and ambition. August 2020 Newsletter Since launching in December 2018, The Centre for Photonics Expertise (CPE) has been supporting businesses within the West Wales & Valleys region through the application of developed photonics capabilities held within four Welsh universities. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, the CPE Programme is led by Wrexham Glyndŵr University from its OpTIC Centre in St Asaph, in partnership with Aberystwyth University, Bangor University and University of South Wales. Throughout her career, Carole has undertaken a variety of directorial and managerial roles across the mechanical engineering, electronics, and TV broadcasting sectors, as well as possessing a wide range of experience within business support, development, and growth. Introduction Bangor University was established in 1884 directly as a result of public subscription to establish a college of University rank in Bangor and consequently has strong links with its local community. The University, in conformity with its Charter and Statutes, confirms its commitment to promoting equality of opportunity. Today the University operates not only at a local level but also nationally and internationally and is committed to providing teaching of the highest quality, conducting research of the highest quality, taking good care of its students and playing a full role in the wider community of North Wales.
