In addition, top-ranked amateur Doug Ghim and a pair of recent graduates from the University of Illinois – Nick Hardy and Dylan Meyer – have received sponsor exemptions into the field. Xander Schauffele is the reigning PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, on the strength of his first two TOUR victories in 2017. Schauffele captured The Greenbrier Classic, then won the season-ending TOUR Championship, a victory that sent him to third place in the final 2017 FedExCup standings. Schauffele, a 24- year-old from San Diego, recently was T2 at THE PLAYERS Championship, his best finish of the current season. Schauffele placed T14 a year ago in his Travelers Championship debut and is No. 26 in this week’s Official World Golf Ranking. Patrick Cantlay made history at the 2011 Travelers Championship when he shot a 10-under-par 60 in the second round, the lowest score ever by an amateur in a PGA TOUR event. He went on to finish T24 at TPC River Highlands and turned pro the following year. Cantlay recorded the first victory of his TOUR career at this season’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He also finished fourth at the Memorial, was T4 at the Genesis Open, and was T7 at both Hilton Head and New Orleans.

Both players have won on the PGA TOUR and have represented the United States with appearances in the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup. “Tony and Rickie will certainly draw large crowds to TPC River Highlands,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “They’re both familiar with the course, and we’re thrilled that they’re adding the Travelers Championship to their schedules again this year.” Tony Finau won the Puerto Rico Open in 2016 for his first PGA TOUR victory. Since then, he’s had eight second-place finishes, including two this season. Over the course of his career Finau has 10 top-10 finishes in major championships, most recently a tie for eighth last month at the PGA Championship. Finau made his Ryder Cup debut in 2018 and played in the Presidents Cup in 2019. He is No. 14 in this week’s Official World Golf Ranking. This will be Finau’s sixth appearance at TPC River Highlands.
