  • The Functional and the Aesthetic Meet in Harmony
6526 Kunstbrochure/2001 ENG 03/07/02 10:54 Side 1 The functional and the aesthetic meet in harmony More than 50,000 people pass through Copenhagen Airport every day. We believe that a clean and relaxed airport, with beautiful architecture, top-quality design and artistic decoration, together with appealing art that has a surprise or two to offer, help to give passengers that sense of well-being that makes for an enjoyable start to a journey. A piece of art in an airport has difficult conditions to con- tend with. It has to compete with signs, advertisements and temp- ting shop windows for the attention of the passenger. It will never receive the undivided attention of the observer it would in a gallery or private home. It must be an integral part of the architec- tural surroundings and yet be visible enough and demonstrative enough to catch the eye of the preoccupied passenger rushing past it. On the other hand, what art gallery can guarantee the artist an audience of 50,000 people - every day? Jens-Flemming Sørensen’s fountain in Pier C, shown on the cover of this guide, is an excellent example of the unique opportu- nities an airport can offer an artist. We wanted an artist-designed fountain in our airport. The artist presented a proposal and as the dialogue between the artist and the airport progressed, limitations and new possibilities of his original concept emerged. We wanted to make the piece a central element of the building and give it a function as a meeting point or waiting area.

The function and design of our products are tailored to reflect and support the rhythm of natural light. Since our first collaboration with Poul Henningsen in 1924, his views on the dualities of design and light have influenced our light philosophy. Every detail in the design has a purpose. Every design starts and ends with light. We believe in passionate craftsmanship that produces quality lighting and appealing design products. • Finn Juhl's Lost Furniture Found After 80 Years
Finn Juhl's one-of-a-kind sofa (estimated price EURO 210,000-330,000 // DKK 1,500,000-2,500,000) alongside vases and bowls by Axel Salto. Oct 27, 2020 13:04 UTC Finn Juhl's Lost Furniture Found After 80 Years Finn Juhl exhibited a sofa and two chairs in 1939. For 80 years, the design world believed it to have been lost, but now it has reappeared and will be sold at auction by Bruun Rasmussen in December. It'll hold the highest estimated price for a piece of 20th Century Danish design ever. Danish homes often contain many design classics, but once in a while a rarer piece of furniture appears, which sometimes has even been considered completely lost. This is the case at Bruun Rasmussen with an upholstered one-of-a-kind sofa from Finn Juhl’s younger days as a designer. This sofa and the two chairs are the only furniture ever made in this design; a piece of Danish design history and Danish cultural heritage is looking for a new home. The year is 1939, and Finn Juhl has dropped out of his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Architecture. Instead, he is working for the Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen on the construction of Radiohuset (The Radio House) on Frederiksberg. In his spare time, Juhl designs furniture for private customers, but this year he is also given the task of designing the interior for cabinetmaker Niels Vodder's stand at the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition. The result is the unique sofa and two accompanying chairs, which Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers will soon present at auction.
