TUESDAY, 31 AUGUST 2021 THE WEEKLY WRAP: SCENE IS SET AUGUST SALE ENTERS By Emma Berry A host of good fillies have won the G3 Prestige S. at Goodwood ROUND TWO over the years, with the most recent Classic heroine to have emerged from the race being Billesdon Brook (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}), who paid a handsome compliment to her breeder Bob McCreery in the months after his death in December 2016. This year's winner Mise En Scene (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}) will certainly have her second-season trainer James Ferguson dreaming of the first weekend of May next year at his local course of Newmarket. And he has good reason beyond just his filly's performance to date as there's a 1000 Guineas winner very close up in her pedigree. Mise En Scene's dam, the unraced Gadfly (GB) (Galileo {GB})), is a half-sister to Pam Sly's 2006 winner Speciosa (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). More immediately, the filly, who is now unbeaten in two starts, looks likely to try out the Rowley Mile for size this autumn as she hold entries for the G2 Rockfel S. and G1 Fillies' Mile. • SUMMER MAGAZINE 2021 INTRODUCTION P ARK HOUSE STABLES Aving Held a Training Licence for Almost Eighteen Seasons I Have Conditioned Myself to Cope with Disappointment
P ARK HOUSE STABLES SUMMER MAGAZINE 2021 INTRODUCTION P ARK HOUSE STABLES aving held a training licence for almost eighteen seasons I have conditioned myself to cope with disappointment. Even the great HAidan O’Brien generally operates at a strike rate of 20-25% which means that for every victory he has had to cope with three or four failures. So far the 2021 Flat season has been one of very few disappointments, and not even at my most wildly optimistic moment could I have imagined just how many amazing highs we have been lucky enough to enjoy. From the start of this season things have by and large gone to plan, kicking off with two winners at All Weather Champions Day, a Guineas Trial, a Derby Trial and a Yorkshire Cup. Royal Ascot and Goodwood are always at the top of any stable’s ‘to do’ list and the fact that the Kingsclere team were the leading yard at Goodwood and so nearly filled the same position at Royal Ascot is a tremendous achievement. This Above: Masked marvels at Ascot before Alcohol Free’s win is not only due to the privilege of training some very talented horses Front cover: True love – Oisin and the Group 1 Coronation but also testament to the team we have managed to accrue over the Stakes trophy last few seasons. Everyone at Kingsclere has played their part in this Back cover: A triumphant trio – SANDRINE, David and Kathleen returning to the winner’s enclosure after the Group season’s achievements. 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes One of the most satisfying parts of our success is that the wins have come for a wide variety of owners.
