Disaster Research Center, University of Delaware Newark, DE Post-doctoral Researcher 2018-present  CRISP Type 2: Defining and Optimizing Societal Objectives for the Earthquake Risk Management of Critical Infrastructure  EAGER: Risk objects in public health crisis: An exploratory investigation of stigma, role- triage, and cautionary measures, Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF)  Responsible for overall project management including research tool design, implementation and human subjects review, and stakeholder engagement. Conducted in-depth interviews with interagency officials and community-based organizations and conducted qualitative analysis. Designed and programmed a web-based survey.

Research Assistant 2013-2017 Projects:  Harmonization, Continued Development, and Preliminary Validation of the Composite of Post-Event Well-being (CoPE-WELL) and National Health Security Preparedness Index (NHSPI), Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Conducted qualitative and quantitative analyses of survey data, built path analysis models to predict disaster recovery in New York City, coordinate meetings with stakeholders, reports and manuscript preparation and presentation of findings.

Madeira, a Case Study, No funding.  Investigated the processes that shaped the construction of disaster vulnerability on Madeira Island in the 19th and 20th centuries.  Sociocultural responses to climate change in the Azores Islands: workshops and consultation to develop a research design and proposal, Funded by Luso-American Development Foundation and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, through the Antero de Quental Exchange Agreement.  Academic internship at Stanford University under the supervision of Dr. Tom Burns to draft of a research proposal focusing on social, economic, and cultural adaptations to climate change on small islands (Madeira Island, Azores Archipelago, and Canary Islands).  The Demographic and Migration Trends in the Ultraperipheral Regions: What’s the impact over the economic, social and territorial cohesion?, Funded by European Commission.  Responsible for collecting and analyzing statistical data to characterize the evolution of the Madeiran and Azorean societies from 1991 to 2011; projected the evolution of demographic, economic, education, health, and environmental indicators taking into account the population projections for the 2000-2050 period; conducted in-depth interviews; wrote parts one and two of the final report of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and edited the report of the Autonomous Region of the Azores; and assisted with project management.  A Socio-Criminal Study of Domestic Violence in the Azores Autonomous Region, Funded by the Ministry of the Interior of Portugal.  Implemented a GIS based model developed by the Ministry of the Interior of Portugal to identify patterns and hotspots of domestic violence in the Azores, analyzed the results of the model, and prepared a technical report.  Risk Governance and Management: the Case of Seismic Risk in the Azores, Funded by Luso-American Development Foundation and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, through the Antero de Quental Exchange Agreement.  Responsible for overall project management including research tool development, conducting literature review, data collection and database management, stakeholder engagement, qualitative and quantitative analyses, development of GIS-based models to assess vulnerability and to measure the effectiveness of land-use plans in the mitigation of seismic risk.
