The short answer: the Lands should not sit idle, as they possess significant strategic economic value. Situated in the rapidly growing Greater Golden Horseshoe region of Ontario, the Lands are spatially and economically significant given their location (e.g., a 5 kilometre drive from downtown Hamilton and a 68 kilometre drive from the U.S. Border at Lewiston). The socio-economic potential of the land is highly dependent upon a coordinated response by planners and economic developers across all levels of government. In that regard, what is at risk (i.e., foregone opportunities for significant economic uplift) of the land being mismanaged or suffering patchwork development has been measured over a 45 year planning horizon and includes: For Hamilton: between 440,000 and 530,000 incremental job years (or an expected 10,800 per year on average) with between $31B and $38B in aggregate incremental wages paid in the region; For Ontario: an expected 150,000 incremental job years (or an expected 3,300 per year on average) with between $2.4B and $3.2B in aggregate incremental provincial tax revenues across the province; and For Canada: at least 38,000, and likely 115,000 incremental job years (or 800/2,500 per year on average) with between $150M and $520M in additional GDP per year. Land use scenarios Urban Strategies Inc. – in consultation with N. Barry Lyons Consultants Ltd. – prepared four scenarios that reflect possible planning and development outcomes for the Lands. Each scenario represents the extrapolation of a particular development program and site planning direction in order to differentiate and clarify such trends for detailed analysis. While each scenario is presented here in abstract, they are feasible from a city planning perspective. (The following coloured bars show the end state of the scenario – please see Section 2.3 for more details.) Note that for each scenario, the net benefits to Hamilton may compete with other regions in Ontario and across Canada (i.e., things that might have otherwise occurred outside Hamilton no longer would). In other words, the methodology employed in the study is sensitive to the movement of people and capital and can quantify how much relative benefit Hamilton yields in each scenario due to a new (additional) comparative advantage. That Ontario and Canada still benefit in aggregate is an indication of the net economic value of the scenarios writ large. Hamilton Harbour and Watershed Fisheries Management Plan Executive Summary Introduction The Hamilton Harbour and Watershed Fisheries Management Plan (HHWFMP) provides information about the characteristics of the watershed, the state of fisheries resources, and guidance for the management of fisheries resources in the watershed. The need for the HHWFMP developed directly from successes of the Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan (RAP) to restore water quality and fish habitat in Hamilton Harbour and its watershed. Hamilton Harbour is a large embayment at the western tip of Lake Ontario. The main tributaries of Hamilton Harbour include Spencer Creek, Grindstone Creek, and Red Hill Creek. The Hamilton Harbour watershed, which includes the contributing streams and creeks, covers an area of approximately 500 km2. It encompasses some of the regions most scenic and diverse landscapes: the Niagara Escarpment is a prominent physical feature, and Cootes Paradise is one of the largest and most significant coastal wetlands of Lake Ontario. Water quality in Hamilton Harbour and Cootes Paradise is the most important factor that currently limits the successful restoration of sustainable, self–reproducing native fish community. In 1987, Hamilton Harbour was officially designated as an Area of Concern (AOC) by the International Joint Commission, pursuant to the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.

    Historic Context Statement Draft – August 2020 Waterdown Village Historic Context Statement The Village of Waterdown, incorporated in 1878, is a significant historic settlement area in the community of Flamborough in the City of Hamilton. Located in the former Township of East Flamborough, Waterdown’s early Euro-Canadian settlement was influenced by the construction of the military road, known as Dundas Street, and the area’s natural topography. The area now known as Waterdown was first developed in the early-nineteenth century as a thriving industrial and agricultural area. It functioned as an important transportation centre for the flow of people and goods by providing a gentle route up the Escarpment, acting as a hub for early stage coach routes and connecting to water transport at Brown’s Wharf (now LaSalle Park in the City of Burlington). The village continues to play an important role in the interconnected Greater Toronto Hamilton Area, resulting in significant volumes of pass-through traffic. Though many of Waterdown’s residents no longer work in the village, many of the commercial, residential industrial and institutional buildings on which the village was founded remain, as does its historic character and charm. Village residents have continued to demonstrate their commitment and interest in conserving their collective history through the adaptive reuse and preservation of historic structures, an active and involved historical society and local heritage advocacy group, and the creation of the heritage conservation district in
