51ST ANNUAL DINNER – TROPHY NIGHT

ANNUAL REPORT

2015/ 16

FIRSTS (DIVISION 1) THIRD SECONDS (DIVISION 3) THIRD THIRDS (DIVISION 6) FOURTH

A/ PRESIDENT’S REPORT

2015/16 was a challenging year, with Major changes to our committee the focus was to structure the Club up off the field with the same desire as our performances on the field, this was highlighted by all senior teams playing finals. This was indeed a great reward for the whole club. We still have a lot of work to be done off the field.

At the Southern Cricket Association presentation dinner in March, Jamie Cooper was awarded Player of the Year for 6th Grade along with the bowling aggregate award, Mark Kamaric once again was awarded the Jim Anderton award voted the best fielder in 1st grade.

Special thanks directed to our major sponsors Hobart Workers Club, SMS Tiling, S. Hume Contracting and Bakers Delight Claremont/Newtown.

The committee of the St. Anne’s Cricket Club undertakes the enormous task of administration. Areas of cricket operations, council liaisons, sponsor relationship management, player welfare, finance and fundraising are just some of the areas we focus on. Many of these tasks go un-noticed by the members and I would like to thank the committee for their hard work.

Once again the Junior club has been in the capable hands of Phillip Cockshutt, ably assisted by Jamie Geeves and Matthew Rozynski. Along with our coaching team of Phin Aldridge, Craig Seabourne, Shane Nicholson and Damien Alexander who do a terrific job of developing our future talent. The club is eternally grateful to this team and all the team managers. I would encourage senior players to seek out these Coaches and offer their services where possible to assist – the junior club needs as much help as they can get and who better to assist than our own senior players.

As always if anyone would like to be more involved in the club don’t hesitate. The Club is always keen to have more people on the committee, people do not need to have official roles to contribute and I can provide many suggestions for people who want to volunteer their time and effort.

Matthew Mason Senior Vice President A GRADE CAPTAIN’S REPORT

I would like to thank St. Anne’s Cricket Club for giving me the opportunity to captain the A grade team for the third year running. I would also like to thank Phillip Cockshutt for his continuing support, along with this year’s vice captains Daniel Gittus and Nathan Mallinson for helping me during the season, in addition to all the senior players.

Once again this season has provided me with great opportunities for learning. This season wasn't as successful as we would all like but lots of positive performances were great to see. I'm sure more successful times will be had if everyone can stick together and enjoy playing in seasons to come.

I look forward to seeing everyone back next year and playing great cricket as a team and the club as a whole.

In closing I would like to congratulate all of the award winners, well deserved. I hope you all have a great night. Brent Cartledge

COACHING REPORT

2015/16 was a very challenging and up and down season for all involved at the club. We faced many challenges with player availabilities and results which were not at the level expected at the start of the season. As the season progressed we started to get things going the way we wanted it too, this was demonstrated by all teams playing finals which resulted in two preliminary finals for 1st and 3rd grades and semi finals for 6th grade.

This was an outstanding result for all, with a limited time and preseason due to the late appointment of coaching positions and inclement weather at the start of the season

Christmas came at a good time for us all to regroup and come back in 2016 with plenty to play for in the seven games we had left for the season.

The firsts and sixths were now almost guaranteed a position in the finals whilst the thirds needed to keep winning to get into the finals.

The coaching group combined which had many changes throughout the year worked very hard to achieve a standard expected by the Club, not always seeing eye to eye, the end result for the on field performances was sensational under sometimes trying circumstances.

We would also like to acknowledge all team captains, Brent Cartledge (1sts) Nathan Kopper & Allan Bennett (3rds), Danny Bennett (6ths) for your support and knowledge not only on selection nights, but also at training and on game days is very much appreciated. The ability to organise players at late notice and to improve the development of all players is something that didn't go unnoticed from the Coaching Group. We would also like to congratulate all of the first year players, the commitment and attitude from you all has been fantastic, from training, game days, fund-raisers too attending club functions; the Club is extremely lucky to have such a good bunch of blokes arrive at the club in the same year. Special mention to Ben Evans who on a number of occasions played a part in all teams at such short notice.

Congratulations to all players on winning their individual awards tonight.

We would like to thank all players, supporters, parents and wives/partners who are involved with the club. Good luck to everyone at the club in the future. We are sure the club is in good hands for the years ahead.

Phillip Cockshutt and Kevin Foster

2nds CAPTAIN (Div 3) REPORT

Wow what a fantastic start to the season by our 2nd Grade side by winning 4 games out of the first 5 that was played and also throw in a wash out, had our boys sitting nicely in second place on the ladder after 6 rounds. This was the inspiration I needed to play another season knowing this side was capable of winning a Grand Final. My first game for 2rd grade was in round 7 against bottom side Gretna; this was a completely different side that I had previously been watching and wouldn’t you know it we was beaten very convincingly. The next 5 rounds were not much better for us only winning 1 game along the way and that game was due to having four A Graders available to play that weekend and our side had now slipped down to 5th spot on the ladder and looked likely on missing out on finals action. After Round 12 another problem had arisen, we had now lost our Captain to personal reasons. Now I found myself captain for the remainder of the season which was not my intentions. Prior to our next game something we identified as a group was that we had a realistic chance of playing finals if we keep on demonstrating the kind of effort and determination that we have previously provided against stronger opposition that were placed higher on the ladder.

By the end of the home and away season we were able to cling onto 5th spot on the ladder giving 2rd grade a consecutive Elimination Final; our side was stronger than expected and my feeling was we were going to keep a few teams on their toes. Our Elimination Final against Bushy Park was a big turnaround after being thrashed by them the previous week in our last roster game. Bushy Park made only 99 first which we were able to chase down with 4 to spare, a fantastic all round performance. We then took on Mackillop Beltas in the 1st Semi-final which was obviously the game of the season; batting first we made 8 for 204 and then bowled Mackillop Beltas out for 198, that win was absolutely electrifying.

We were going to have to be at our best if we were going to beat the Knights in the Preliminary Final who were only beaten once during the roster season; to our credit we were not disgraced by being bowled out for 165, then it took the Knights 42.3 overs to finally reach our target; we gave them a hard fought win. The Knights eventually went on to win the Grand Final against Sandford the following week so be proud guys on what we achieved as a team. Through thick and thin our pride and loyalty we showed together was true St Anne’s spirit.

I would like to thank all the guys that played under me during the season, it was enjoyable along with an exciting challenge. I would like to thank Nathan Kopper for the assistance he provided to me during the final series which I greatly appreciated.

My three outstanding highlights through the season were Mathew Rozynski 6 for 40 against Runnymede, Navi Singh 65 against Busy Park in the Elimination Final and Nathan Kopper 80 against Mackillop Beltas 1st Semi Final; and how could I forget the catch that Hafiz Inayat took against Mackillop Beltas at North Warrane in Round 12, a bloody ripper mate.

On closing I would like to congratulate all trophy winners from all grades and I hope you enjoy the night and maybe I will see you guys again next year.

Allan Bennett (AB)

3rds CAPTAIN’S REPORT (Div 6)

I just want to say thank you to all the players for a great year and to the Club for giving me the opportunity to be captain and to the boys for letting me lead you all as a great team.

I think we had a pretty good year finishing second and playing finals, hopefully next year we can go further into the finals and hopefully take out the premiership. I have not one bit of disappointment, the respect shown by all players makes me extremely grateful. We had lots of players missing out each week and I would like to congratulate them for their understanding and continued commitment to hang in tough when not selected.

We did have our ups and downs but overall it was a great year, if the opportunity arises again where I can be captain then I would love to do it.

Congratulations to all players on their personal awards tonight, keep in mind team success is what we are after.

I would like to thank all players, partners and supporters for their support each and every week towards all teams, let’s make next year an even bigger and better year for everyone at the Club.

Thanks,

Danny Bennett

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT REPORT (taken directly from the Juniors Annual Report)

Well another summer of Cricket come and gone, The Junior program continues to go from strength to strength year after year. This year saw the biggest participation to date with 70 players across 6 age groups.

The Club is extremely grateful to those people that make this program possible, going forward at the rate we have been the Club will need more and more help to keep providing a game of cricket for these enthusiastic young cricketers.

On behalf of the club I would like to sincerely thank all our volunteers for their wonderful contributions to the club and their respective teams. In particular the following people;

Matthew Rozynski for looking after the T20 Blast kids, along with many parent helpers Jamie Geeves who assisted myself with the Category No2 team Damien Alexander for looking after Category No1 team Shane Nicholson for looking after the Under 13 team Craig Seabourne for looking after the Under 14 team Phin Aldridge for working hard and his tireless work trying to maintain the U16 team

Without these people and their support staff none of this would have been possible

It is clear that there is something good about our program but it's also quite obvious that we need more support from our senior cricketers, parents and Cricket Tasmania to make this cricketing experience the best experience available for our kids. It’s also important to support our coaches with Team Managers, Scorers & Umpires etc.

With this in mind, I urge everyone to put their hand up to assist in any way possible, the club welcomes your ideas and thoughts to help us provide more fun for the kids, everyone involved is a member of the club and contributes to its success

To all the kids who took part in the junior program this year, I hope you all had fun, learnt something new about cricket, but most of all thanked your Mum, Dad, Nan, Pop or whomever for taken you to training and to the games each and every week.

Most importantly, it is not all about the results, albeit there were good ones; it’s about enjoying the game of cricket, playing in the right spirit and having fun whilst doing it.

GO THE CROWS!!!
