It will connect residents to high activity areas in Jurong West including NTU, Jurong Industrial Estate and Jurong Island. 2 THE HEROIC FIVE WHO SAVED CARDIAC ARREST VICTIM Thanks to the quick-thinking action of five people, a man of the collapsed man from Ms Selina Hui, 38, an auditor who suffered a cardiac arrest at the void deck of Block 653 with Pioneer Zone 12 RC and her daughter Renisse Lim, 6. Jurong West Street 61 on February 24, was saved. Mr Goh Keh Wee, Pioneer Zone 12 RC Chairman and Three grassroots leaders from Pioneer Division were at a West Coast Town Council Councillor, and Mr Cheong Residents’ Committee event in the vicinity when they heard Sun Tze (Jackson) and Mr Gregory Ng, a performer at the event, rushed to a nearby block to retrieve an automated external defibrillator (AED). The group used the AED, which works by sending an electric shock to the heart in order to revive it and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim Mr Lau Hung Khim, 52. Soon his heart started beating and he was breathing once more. An ambulance took him to hospital. Mr Lau, a taxi driver, who has since recovered from the ordeal, said he was thankful to be saved. He added: “I am extremely grateful to the lifesavers who helped me. WHAT IS AED AND HOW TO USE IT DEFIBRILLATOR The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a computerised medical device that is capable of analysing the casualty’s heart rhythm and directs the user to deliver an electric shock to the casualty. Upon switching on the AED, the device will read out instructions on how to operate the AED, when to perform CPR and when to deliver a shock to the casualty. THE AED CANNOT BE USED IF THE CASUALTY IS: APPLY THE DEFIBRILLATION PADS (WITH CPR IN PROGRESS): • Responsive or has pulse and/or breathing. • An infant below one year old. • Follow the instructions on the packet and • Obviously dead. remove the pads.
