CANISIUS COLLEGE WESTERN NEW YORK PROSPERITY FELLOWS 2015 - 2016 Lauren Courtade ’16 Born in Buffalo, Lauren is a proud member of the Western New York community. Due to her passion for children, education, and her community, Lauren is a dual childhood and special education major, with an early childhood and middle school extension and a concentration in mathematics. Lauren has become a Canisius math tutor, where she tutors students from a Buffalo public school and charter school on a weekly basis. She also has become involved with the Teacher Education Club, and was inducted into the Education Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi. Outside of Canisius, Lauren maintains several different jobs which include being a cashier, babysitting, tutoring multiple gifted and struggling students, as well as running her own custom dessert business. Next year, Lauren will act as the Canisius Earning Excellence Program research assistant for the JUSTICE Project, which works to provide professional development opportunities and resources for teachers in the Buffalo School District. Additionally, Lauren volunteers her time at Vive La Casa, a refugee shelter in Buffalo, and has been an active member of Blankets of Love since 2008, which creates blankets for cancer patients at Roswell Park. Lauren plans on graduating in 2017 and then pursing her Master’s Degree. With her education, Lauren hopes to become a special education teacher and help transform the Buffalo School System by providing all students with quality, research-based instruction and support. Kyle Dolcemascolo ’15, MBA ’16 Kyle was born in the quaint town of Fishkill, New York. Throughout his undergraduate career at Canisius College, he majored in psychology with a triple minor in adult clinical psychology, adolescent & child psychology, and neuropsychology.
