HOLLYWOOD ACTOR TACKLES the “BIG C” with CELEBRITY CHARITY SOCCER EVENT Submitted By: International Womens Day (Butterfly PR) Wednesday, 20 June 2012 HOLLYWOOD ACTOR TACKLES THE “BIG C” WITH CELEBRITY CHARITY SOCCER EVENT Submitted by: International Womens day (Butterfly PR) Wednesday, 20 June 2012 HOLLYWOOD actor and cult British favourite of films like The Football Factory and The Business, Tamer Hassan, is dropping his tough man image to organise a celebrity charity soccer event. Hassan, will lead his team The Bob Watson Celebrity XI against Surrey legends ‘The Select 11’ to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Onelife UK charities. The event will honour the memory of Metropolitan Police child protection officer, Bob Watson, who recently lost his battle against cancer. The match will take place on Saturday, 21st July at 12pm at Imber Court, Metropolitan Police Sports Club, in Surrey, followed by a dinner dance and auction in the evening. Donations have been received from footballers David Beckham, Lionel Messi (Barcelona FC), Jamie Carragher (EX Liverpool FC), Ronaldinho (Mineiro), Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur), Charlton FC and Millwall FC. The team of celebrities will be putting their reputations on the line against ‘The Select 11’ to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and Onelife UK. Money raised by the event will help Cancer Research UK continue its life-saving work and support Onelife UK, a London-based charity, provide essential life skills to vulnerable young people and help them realise their potential to make a successful transition to adulthood through DJ/music and film production. Tamer is not taking this game lightly, using his competitive spirit to select only the fittest celebs with the skills to take on ‘The Select 11’ Surrey local legends. Actor, Hassan said: “I’m carefully choosing only the fittest celebs; each and every one of them has been put through their paces to make sure they are fit to wear the shirt. We promise to bring an entertaining game on the day.” The Hollywood actor’s team includes sporting celebrities Danny Dyer, Calum Best, Chloe Everton, Frankie Cocozza, Kirk Norcross, Andy Ansah, Gavin Ramjaun and more. These stars will be on their best behaviour as they step onto Met Police ground next month. Hassan said: “Bob Watson’s story really touched my heart; he had a heart for young people, bringing them together to enjoy football. My team of celebrities will do our best to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Onelife UK. I love football and this is a fun way to raise money. Cancer is a dreadful disease and so many people I know have lost someone to cancer. This is me doing my bit for a cause I care passionately about.” The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE) infamous Sugar Hut, is the official sponsor for the Bob Watson Foundation event. Page 1 Norcross said: “Sugar Hut is proud to sponsor the event and raise money for worthy charities Cancer Research UK & Onelife UK. His most recent film The Double with co-stars Richard Gere and Martin Sheen is coming out this year, directed by Michael Brandt. Hassan also starred in the NCIS LA, appearing in a regular role alongside Mark Harmon. Tamer has now come back to London full time to shoot his new project Player which he has written, and will also be starring in for his directorial debut. To his credit and perhaps detriment at times, Tamer is no self-publicist, but has plenty to shout about Page 2 having acted alongside many more Hollywood stars such as Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Mads Mikkelsen and Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans) Aaron Johnson and Nicholas Cage (Kickass) Vigo Mortensen (Eastern Promises); Bob Hoskins, Morgan Freeman and Jet Lee (Unleashed), Daniel Craig (Layer Cake) and 50cent (Dead Man Running) as well as taking the lead in TVs Hannibal of the Alps about the life of the Carthaginian military commander. Playing to his strengths, Tamer portrays the humorous, loveable rogue well, (The Business, The Football Factory) which will no doubt endear him to a certain type of film fan, but, unlike many of his peers, Tamer introduces good looks and a powerful yet cheeky screen presence to these roles…and it works! Apprenticeship served, its time to take the lead! Away from the big screen, Tamer is a family man through and through and an ambassador of Onelife, a charity that focuses on youth development and mentorship, providing emotional and practical support to vulnerable young people in order to help them realise their potential. He also supports charities such as The Damilola Taylor Trust and Beat Bullying and most recently, the Ben Kinsella – Stamp Out Knife Crime. • Robot Overlords
ROBOT OVERLORDS Production notes Director Jon Wright Screenplay Jon Wright and Mark Stay Produced by Piers Tempest Producers Justin Garak, Ian Flooks, Steve Milne Cast Ben Kingsley Gillian Anderson Callan McAuliffe Ella Hunt James Tarpey Milo Parker Tamer Hassan Geraldine James OBE Roy Hudd OBE Craig Garner 2 “If you leave your home, the robots know about it” Perhaps it was all the Steven Spielberg films he had watched as a child in the 1980s, but when British writer-director Jon Wright had a particularly vivid dream about not being able to leave his house for fear of attack from robots one night, he knew he had found the plot of his next movie. “I woke up one morning having dreamt the first two minutes of the film,” says Wright. “It was a father and son playing a cat-and-mouse game with Nerf guns in a house. They threw open the curtains, revealing a massive robot that leaned in and threatened to annihilate them. They dropped their weapons immediately and I woke up and thought, ‘That’s good!’” Wright assumed his dream was a pastiche of scenes absorbed from watching other films. But the more people he began to tell, the more the Belfast-born filmmaker was convinced a robot invasion film about humans trapped in their own homes by an extraordinary and sinister occupying force, was an original storyline. ROBOT OVERLORDS is a breath-taking family adventure film about a group of teenagers headed by Sean (Callan McAuliffe), Alex (Ella Hunt), Nathan (James Tarpey), and young Connor (Milo Parker).
