LAST TIME OUT: Mejia took his second straight loss, allowing six runs on six hits over six innings against West Michigan on Friday night at Classic Park. All six Whitecaps runs and six of their seven hits against Mejia came in the fourth. In his other five innings, the right-hander held West Michigan scoreless on one hit. The Captains lost,

HOMERLESS STREAK ENDS: Entering 2018, Mejia had allowed just one home run in his career. It came on June 13, 2015 when Mejia was in the Dominican Summer League and surrendered a long ball to Orlando Marquez of the Astros’ affiliate. The right-hander did not allow another home run until exactly three years later, on June 13, 2018, when Ryan Noda of the homered in the third inning and Brock Lundquist homered two batters later. Noda’s homer ended Mejia’s streak of 57 consecutive appearances without a home run allowed.

DISABLED LIST STINT: Mejia was on the Disabled List from April 20 to June 7 with an arm injury.

LAST SEASON: Began 2017 with Mahoning Valley, but moved to the AZL at the end of June after just two appearances for the Scrappers. He returned to Mahoning Valley at the start of August and remained there for the rest of the season. In the Arizona League, Mejia posted a 3.14 ERA over 10 appearances in the . This is Torres’ second year in the Indians’ organization. The left-handed pitcher was drafted in the first round (10th overall) by the Anaheim Angels in the 2000 Amateur Draft. Torres played for 13 seasons, reaching as high as Triple-A. Prior to joining the Indians, Torres coached at King’s Ridge Christian Academy in Georgia.

HITTING COACH: Pete Lauritson – 1st Season in Lake County Pete Lauritson, 39, will serve as the Captains’ hitting coach after making his professional coaching debut last year as the hitting coach for the Short-Season Mahoning Valley Scrappers. In 2016, Lauritson served as an Assistant Coach at his alma mater, the University of Iowa. Prior to that, he spent 13 seasons on the coaching staff for North Iowa Area Community College, where he helped the Trojans to three appearances in the NJCAA Division II College World Series. Lauritson graduated from the University of Iowa in 2002 with a degree in psychology.

BENCH COACH: – 1st Season in Lake County Kyle Hudson, 31, joins the Captains after making his professional debut last year as the bench coach for the High-A . Prior to joining the Indians, Hudson served as an Assistant Coach for his alma mater, the University of Illinois. At Illinois, Hudson was a three-year letter winner in both baseball and football. He was drafted by the in the fourth round of the 2008 Amateur Draft. Hudson made his Major League debut with Baltimore in 2011 and played 14 games in the big leagues. The outfielder played eight professional seasons with the Orioles, Rangers, Rays, Phillies and Angels’ organizations. Hudson lives two doors down from Indians pitcher Zach McAllister in Peoria, IL.
