Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (77), Chairman and MD of Biocon; 4. If you take these 4 women – I am pretty sure everyone had to fight the workplace bias, raising their families along with their professional growth and every day taking small steps towards their reaching the summit.

During its long and chequered history, the CPA has played a laudable role in upholding parliamentary democracy by enhancing knowledge and understanding of democratic governance. Through its endeavours, Parliaments and peoples of the Commonwealth from diverse backgrounds, have forged close links and mutually benefited in various areas related to governance. The CPA has also been encouraging Regional Conferences among its Branches to devote special attention to matters of regional interest. The CPA Branches of the North-East region of India have been organizing Regional Conferences every year since 1997. These Conferences have provided a forum for legislators of this Region to discuss issues of common concem and also the problems and prospects of parliamentary democracy in the region.

Hu, the fi rst Chinese head of state to visit India in more than a decade, was received at the airport in New Delhi by India’s Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal. The Chinese leader held talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi on a range of bilateral issues, including commercial and economic cooperation. The two also reviewed progress in resolving the protracted border dispute between the two countries. After the summit, India and China signed various pacts in areas such as trade, economics, health and education and added “more substance” to their strategic partnership in the context of the evolving global order. India and China signed as many as 13 bilateral agreements in the presence of visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The fi rst three were signed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.
