A Message From The Principal / Un Mensaje de la Directora
Stallion P arents,
Encouraging students is at the heart of the work of both educators and parents. In doing this work, It is essential for us to understand the importance of the value of learning from mistakes. This is true in the world of athletics, in our relationships with other people, and it is also true for learning in the classroom. In order for students to learn something to a deep level, they need to be able to take risks in their thinking. When they take risks in their thinking, students need to understand that it is natural to make mistakes. This is how we learn. Too often students think that if they make mistakes it means they are not smart. They feel discouraged and this shuts some students down. If all students understood mistakes are a part of the learning process, they would be less likely to feel a sense of hopelessness about their mistakes. Through our encouragement as educators and as parents we can teach students to see mistakes for the opportunities that they are.
Alentar a los estudiantes es el corazón del trabajo de los educadores y los padres. Al hacer este trabajo, es esencial que comprendamos la importancia del valor de aprender de los errores. Esto es cierto en el mundo del atletismo, en nuestras relaciones con otras personas, y también es cierto para el aprendizaje en el aula. Para que los estudiantes aprendan algo a un nivel profundo, necesitan poder arriesgarse en su pensamiento. Student Highlight-Jacky Granados
This week's Student highlight is Jacky Granados. Jacky is a four year member of the Madera South girls volleyball program where she played three years on the varsity level. She plays volleyball year around and is very passionate about the sport and hopes to play in college. She is enrolled in the four year criminal justice pathway and
is interested in a future career in law enforcement. Jacky looks forward to attending Fresno State University and majoring in criminal justice.

Parents of 12th graders please remind students about FAFSA/Dream Act application completion. Deadline to apply is March 2. Many students are eligible for financial aid to go to college. The Dream Act application is California aid program that is for students that are undocumented.

Sports /Deportivos On our Senior Night, Boys Wrestling beat Madera High in a close battle 30-23. The Stallions could potentially have a league championship in the CMAC if they beat Sanger and Edison in the next few weeks. Great job Stallions!
Our Girls Wrestling team was also successful on their Senior night defeating Kerman with a 43-42 win!
Attendance Policy/Politica de Asistencia
Healthy students learn better .. . . . In order to keep our students safe and healthy the district has certain guidelines that need to be followed . Students should stay home if they have had vomiting , diarrhea and / or a fever of 100. 0F or greater in the past 24 hours . Please also keep students home for the first 24 hours after starting antibiotics . Students who are sent home due to illness need to stay home from school the following day or until they have not had any vomiting , diarrhea or fever for 24 hours without medications .
These are the symptoms that indicate that it is time for your student to stay at home:
● A fever of 100.0 F or greater ● Vomiting ● Diarrhea ● Severe cough ● Within the first 24 hours of starting antibiotics.

Los estudiantes saludables aprenden mejor ..... Para mantener a nuestros estudiantes seguros y saludables, el distrito tiene ciertas pautas que deben seguirse. Great Things are Happening at Madera South High School
MSHS Band would like to recognize and congratulate Edgar Berzamina for being accepted to the Fresno Madera County Music Educators Association Honor Band. This is a tremendous accomplishment! The students selected are the highest achieving musicians from all over Fresno, Clovis, and Madera County high schools. There were nearly 40 students who auditioned for a spot in his section, and Edgar earned 4th chair of 19 that were selected to the ensemble.
Congratulations, Edgar! MSHS Band desea reconocer y felicitar a Edgar Berzamina por haber sido aceptado en la Banda de Honor de la Asociación de Educadores de Música del Condado de Fresno Madera. Este es un logro tremendo! Los estudiantes seleccionados son los músicos de más alto rendimiento de todas las escuelas secundarias del condado de Fresno, Clovis y Madera. FFA President, Arthur Cuevas and Reporter Merary Hernandez were invited to appear on a segment of Central Valley Today to promote the FFA Organization and the chapters upcoming dinner dance fundraiser. Arthur and Merary talked about FFA’s influence on their lives and the types of events a member could be apart of through the organization.
El presidente de la FFA, Arthur Cuevas y el reportero Merary Hernández fueron invitados a aparecer en un segmento de Central Valley Today para promocionar la organización de la FFA y los capítulos de la próxima cena de baile para recaudar fondos. Our Girls Wrestling program hosted its first ever girls varsity wrestling tournament. We had five girls place for individual honors. They were: Christina Contreras (Champion), Itahi trujillo(3rd), Emily Zamudio(4th), Lupe Acosta (4th), and Eva Mejia (5th).
Nuestro programa Girls Wrestling organizó su primer torneo de lucha universitaria femenina. Teníamos cinco chicas para honores individuales. Ellos fueron: Christina Contreras (Campeona), Itahi trujillo (3 °), Emily Zamudio (4 °), Lupe Acosta (4 °) y Eva Mejia (5 °).
Madera South hosted their annual blood drive on January 24th. Juniors and seniors over the age of 16 with a signed parent consent form were able to donate. 95 units that were donated.
