Closing The perpetual Kokusai Shimin Sho “International Citizens Award” (known until 1988 as the ‘Victor M. Carter Award’) is presented at the Japan America Society of Southern California’s Anniversary Dinner & Gala Celebrations.

For over 50 years, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. has served as an engine of growth for the U.S. economy. TakujiYamada has only been President and CEO of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. since April of 2014, but in that time has managed upheld a deep commitment to corporate social responsibility which has created value for society and brought joy to communities across the country. Takuma Sato is Japan’s championed Formula One and IndyCar race car driver. In 2013, Sato became the first Japanese to win an IndyCar race in the 106 year history of the championship open-wheel auto racing series. His success in the world of racing has helped contribute in bringing Japan onto the “global race track”, doing away with false preconceptions that a country like Japan has no stake in the generally “Western world” of racing.
Sato also founded a charity known as “With You Japan” that works together with fellow “Children Mending Hearts” to focus on providing ongoing responsive and proactive support for children affected by the Tohoku Earthquake and tsunami.
Sato also serves as a special ambassador for the Japan America Society of Southern California. Frank Buckley, Anchor, KTLA Morning News
Frank Buckley is co-anchor of KTLA’s Emmy Award-winning signature broadcast, L.A.’s No. 1-rated KTLA Morning News.
Frank joined KTLA in June 2005 from CNN, where he had been a Los Angles-based national correspondent. In March 2011, Frank traveled to Japan and was the only Los Angeles-based local reporter to provide coverage from Sendai after it was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami.
Frank is a also member of the U.S.-Japan Council and served on the Japanese American Leadership Delegation in 2006. Japan Bowl® of California is a Japanese language and culture competition for high school students. Initiated in 1992 by the Japan America Society of Washington D.C., Japan Bowl® focuses on the knowledge of “Japan, the country,” rather than simply the language itself. With guidance from JASWDC, the Japan America Society of Southern California hosted the 3rd Annual Japan Bowl® of California on March 7, 2015, to provide opportunities for high school students to test their knowledge, skills, and show their passion for Japan. As a grand prize, the winners of Level 3 and 4, Stevenson School of Pebble Beach, CA to compete in the National Japan Bowl® held in Washington DC, representing California.
