Box 905, 2300 AX Leiden, The Netherlands Tel: +971 50 552 9356 [email protected] ORCID: 0000-0003-3146-2737 Abstract Indonesia has exhibited a unique pattern of conference proceedings publishing that was distinct from global and regional norms. Conference proceedings are now an integral part of the major citation databases, and this study examined their progressive coverage in the context of academic career advancement and Indonesian government policy. The results of analyses in Web of Science (WoS), Scopus and to a lesser extent, Dimensions showed an increase in the proportion of conference proceedings far in excess of global norms and not seen in any other South East Asian country. In the conference series containing most Indonesian proceedings papers, there was a recent increase in representation from Indonesia and an increase in the proportion of those conferences hosted in Indonesia. Local policy documents and guidelines from 2012 and 2014 appeared to encourage academics to increase research outputs in high impact internationally indexed sources but did not make any distinction between document types. The conclusion suggests that scholars might have found advantage in advancing through the hierarchy of academia through publishing conference papers that were quicker and easier to publish than journal articles.

    Committee on Trustees (COT) Governance Review May 2018 In a March 2017 letter to the community, PEA shared that in response to recommendations made by Choate Hall & Stewart, the trustees would be “conducting a further governance review, via the Committee on Trustees, to research best practices in school governance and benchmark PEA against other institutions. Topics to be reviewed include the composition and culture of the Trustees, length of terms, ongoing Trustee education, and the structure and frequency of Trustee meetings. Actions taken as a result of this review will be shared with the community when completed.” We are providing an update of the work to date, as the review process is still ongoing. Governance at Phillips Exeter Academy lies with the Trustees. Drawing upon the expertise of a diverse body of alumni volunteers, the Trustees oversee the administration of the school and the management of its financial and physical resources. The Trustees work closely with the principal and administrators, who lead the day-to-day operations of the Academy, and with the faculty, who focus on matters related to the curriculum and the student experience. While each group has its own role and responsibilities, all of us work together informed by a collaborative spirit and a shared passion for Exeter’s educational mission, a belief in the potential for transformation and discovery within all of our students, and a vision for Exeter’s ongoing excellence and leadership in secondary school education.     Deerfield Academy New Faculty Bios 2017 TOM BERGERON Orchestra & Chamber Music Director Born and raised in the Pioneer Valley, Thomas comes to Deerfield after building a distinguished international career as a musician and educator. He holds two advanced music degrees from Yale and a business degree from The Isenberg School at UMass Amherst. Thomas has held teaching positions at Tufts University, Williams College, Bennington College, Yale, Amherst College, and The Brimmer and May School. Prior to his appointment at Deerfield, Thomas was a resident fellow with Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect, taught the inmates at Sing Sing Correctional Facility through Musicambia, served as an educational consultant for The Harmony Program in New York City, and was an inclusive learning teaching artist with VSA Massachusetts. As a performing artist, he is currently Principal Trumpet with the Springfield Symphony, a member of the Atlantic Brass Quintet, and has released two critically-acclaimed albums of his own hybrid jazz chamber music. He has performed on many Broadway shows and has worked with T-Pain, Vampire Weekend, Gabriel Kahane, The Danish National Symphony Orchestra, The American Symphony, The Temptations, Idina Menzel, Judy Collins, and Arlo Guthrie, among others.
