Not what I expected, so much better!By LeslieLuI honestly wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I was not expecting what I got. This book has encouraged me to continue working on things that I want to change about myself. No I'm not a drug or alcohol addict, but I struggle with depression and can relate to some of the feelings he has towards his family. NICK CARTER'S BOOK AND BSB CDBy Kathy ReidGreat book if you have addictions or things you want to change in your life. I always liked the Backstreet Boys, along with my daughter, and it was so interesting reading about Nick's struggles, family problems and how he dealt with some pretty serious issues. Gave the CD to my NOW 23 yo daughter and she loves it. She said, "Yes, Mom, I STILL love the BSB's, thanks for the CD". Repetitive, Much More Self-Help Than BiographyBy LauraI knew this was a mix of self-help and biography, but I expected there to be a lot less of a self-help aspect then there is. The book gets very repetitive at times. Also, while it is great that Nick was able to solve his issues without rehab or medication, I think some attitudes he expresses about them could be dangerous for people reading the book in search of help, especially his attitudes toward mental health medication. Hopefully this book is able to help some people, but I had really hoped for more biographical information about his life with BSB. This book is Nick Carter’s autobiography and self-help hybrid in which he chronicles his struggles with a dysfunctional family and the unimaginable rigors of becoming an internationally successful pop-star at the age of 12. From his battle with addiction to serious health complications and the pain of his younger sister’s tragic death, Nick leaves nothing to the imagination and offers true and heartfelt advice to help readers overcome obstacles in their own lives. About the Author Nick Carter, best known as an incredibly talented member of the Backstreet Boys, has endured a very public struggle with addiction, family turmoil and health issues since the tender age of 12 years old. Together with the rest of the wildly successful boy band, he recorded multiple albums beginning in the1990s and continues to record and perform with them in 2013. Riding the wave of BSB's worldwide fame, Nick also released two solo albums and starred in a hit reality TV show, “House of Carters,” with his four siblings before the tragic death of his sister, Leslie. Carter has not made a secret of his ongoing fight with drug and alcohol abuse over the years he's spent in the public eye, but this book is his first complete account of his tumultuous life and pop-star lifestyle. Determined to use his own story to help change the lives of others battling their own demons, Nick writes this book with an open heart and a deep desire for truth and honesty.
