CRUVOLLEYBALL 3 CRUVOLLEYBALL 3 COACHPRYOR Long-time Division I Head Coach Mark Pryor became the head coach of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball program on April 25, 2019. Pryor comes to Mary Hardin-Baylor after a successful five-year run as the Head Volleyball Coach at the University of North Dakota. He led the Fighting Hawks to a 117-58 record, two Big Sky Conference Tournament Championships and a Big Sky Conference regular season title. Pryor also guided UND to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearanc- es and was named Big Sky Coach of the Year in 2016. Pryor has also been a head coach at Texas A&M-Commerce, Louisiana-Monroe and Southwest Baptist University. He won Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year honors at TAMU-Commerce in 2009 and earned Southland Conference Coach of the Year honors at ULM following the 2005 sea- son. Pryor has an overall head coaching record of 182-152.

Pryor also served as Head Coach at North Central Texas College and has made Division I assistant coaching stops at Baylor University (2010-14), Boise State University (2003-04) and New Mexico State (1999). Pryor also spent one year working with USA Volleyball. He has trained three All-Americans, three conference Liberos of the Year, a conference MVP and three NCAA statistical national champions during his career. Pryor has recruited three top 20 ranked recruiting classes during his time at Baylor.

Pryor graduated from Baylor University in 1995 with degrees in Speech Communication and Journal- ism. He earned a Master of Arts in Communication from Louisiana-Monroe in 1998. Pryor and his wife, Amanda, have two sons, Myles and Mason.

4 CRUVOLLEYBALL 4 CRUVOLLEYBALL COACHSMITH ASSISTANT COACH JACEY SMITH Jacey Smith joined UMHB as a graduate assistant coach for the vol- leyball program in August of 2019. She is working on her Master's Degree in sport administration.

Smith comes to UMHB after a standout playing career at Abilene Christian University. Smith was a four-year starter for the Wildcats and was a two-time All-Southland Conference selection. She also earned a spot on the SLC All-Tournament Team in 2017 and was a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree. Smith has coaching experience at the ACU Volleyball Camp and as a private lessons instructor. She has also worked at the Wimberley ISD Speed and Strength Camp and as an intern in the ASC Athletics Marketing and Promotions office. Smith also volunteered with several organizations during her career at ACU.

Smith graduated from Abilene Christian in May 2019 with a degree in Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation Management. She earned Dean's List honors in each of her four years on campus and was a Presidential Scholarship recipient.

She participated in volleyball, basketball and track at Connally High School, where she was a three-time volleyball MVP and two-time all-dis- trict selection. Kylie also earned academic all-district honors her junior and senior sea- sons and participated in NHS, Pflugerville Leadership Program, Student Council and FCA. Kylie opened her collegiate career at Howard Payne University and is the daughter of Dirk and Patty Metcalf.

MADDISON HEIBEL FRESHMAN • SETTER • 5-6 • INEZ, TEXAS #10 Maddison is a special education major at UMHB. She was a four-time all-district volley- ball player at Industrial High School, where she also earned all-area and all-state honors. Maddison was also a four-time academic all-district selection and Vice President of Na- tional Honor Society. She is the daughter of Matthew and Julie Heibel.

REBEKAH PASQUINELLI FRESHMAN • OUTSIDE HITTER • 5-9 • COMBINE, TEXAS #16 Rebekah is studying nursing at UMHB. She participated in volleyball, cheer and track at Kaufman High School, where she was named MVP twice. Sierra was also a two-time academic all-state selection in both volleyball and cheerleading. She is the daughter of Brandie Pasquinelli.

She participated in volleyball, basketball and golf at Devine High School, where she earned seven varsity letters. Sierra was a three-time all-district selection, District MVP, all-state honoree, Legacy Team members, All-Star Team member and named to the All-State Top 30 Team. Sierra also earned all-district honors in basketball. She was a seven-time academic all-district honoree across all three sports and earned academic all-state honors in all three sports. Sierra was also a mem- ber of FFA, NHS and FCA. She is the daughter of Joshua and Tori Dennis.

KELSEY SUROVIK FRESHMAN • SETTER • 5-10 • BELTON, TEXAS #17 Kelsey is studying nursing at UMHB. She played two years of varsity volleyball at Belton High School, where she was named first-team all-district, Offensive Player of the Year, District Most Valuable Hitter and MVP. Kelsey was also an academic all-district selection. She is the daughter of Ray and Sheila Surovik.

She participated in volleyball and track at Cooper High School, where she was named Newcomer of the Year and MVP. Holly was also a two-time academic all-state selection and member of NHS and NTHS. She is the daughter of April Bartholomew and Tracy Wilson.

DR. RANDY O’REAR, UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT

Randy O’Rear became the 22nd president of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor when he assumed the office on June 1, 2009. O’Rear was named President and CEO of the uni- versity in a unanimous decision by the school’s Board of Trustees in September 2008. Dr. O’Rear is the first of president of UMHB who is also an alumnus of the university. He graduated from UMHB with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1988 and earned an MBA from UMHB in 1997. O’Rear earned a doctoral degree in Higher Education from Baylor University in 2004. O’Rear has served at UMHB since 1988, most recently as executive vice president and chief operating officer. For more than 18 years, O’Rear has been actively involved in fund- raising for the university. Under his leadership, gifts and grants dramatically increased, numerous endowed scholarships were established and major capital projects were com- pleted, including the construction of the Parker Academic Center, the Mayborn Campus Center, the Meyer Christian Studies Center and the Crusader Stadium Complex. O’Rear has also strong ties to the UMHB athletic department. He was also a two-year for the UMHB program as a right-handed pitcher. O’Rear held the school record for wins in a season for five years before that mark was broken in 1992. He also spent one year as a student assistant coach and two years as a full-time assis- tant coach for the Cru baseball team. Originally from Waco, O’Rear is a graduate of Robinson High School. He and his wife, Julie, have three children, Ryan, Taylor and Reed. Taylor and her husband, John, a former UMHB soccer standout, have two sons. Reed is married to former UMHB basketball player Jesslyn Poole. The O’Rears live in Belton and are members of First Baptist Church, Belton.

RANDY MANN, VICE PRESIDENT FOR ATHLETICS

Randy Mann was promoted to Vice President for Athletics in May of 2012 after serving as full- time Associate Athletic Director for four years. He spent the previous eight years serving as head men’s golf coach and associate AD. Coach Mann guided the Cru to the American Southwest Conference championship in 2008 and closed out his coaching career by guiding the Cru to the first NCAA Division III National Tournament berth in the program’s history. Mann also led the Cru to ASC championships in 2005 and 2001. The first conference championship was the first conference title in the history of the UMHB men’s golf program. The Crusaders never fin- ished lower than fourth in the ASC Tournament during Mann’s tenure in Belton. The Crusaders also narrowly missed earning the first NCAA Division III National Championship berth in the program’s history in the spring of 2004, although Dillon Gooch qualified as an individual to become the first UMHB men’s golfer to compete in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Coach Mann came to UMHB from Temple High School, where he spent the seven years as head coach of the boys and girls golf teams. Coach Mann spent a total of 19 years teaching and coaching in the Temple Independent School District. He took the Temple boys golf team to 4 district titles and 2 district runner-ups finishes in his 7 years as coach. In that same time, Coach Mann took the girls team to 3 district titles and 3 district runner-up finishes. The teams only missed the regional tournament once each during Coach Mann’s tenure.

Randy Mann is a 1980 graduate of Tarleton State University in Stephenville, and he received his master’s degree from Tarleton in 1998. He and his wife, Caroline, have three sons, Mitchell, Michael, and Marshall., and a grandson, Maverick.
