By 1860 he was the sole owner of both businesses and they grew rapidly to become the largest of its kind in the world. He became very wealthy, and a model employer. He had a residence at Stamford Hall, , when not living in London, and was a member of ’s King’s Weigh House, Congregational Chapel, Fish Street Hill, London. He also became one of the proprietors of the “Daily News” a national Liberal paper. He supported Gladstone, and was elected as Liberal MP for Nottingham in 1865 and later in Bristol 1869 – 1885. He endowed and founded in London for adult education. He was also treasurer of Homerton College, and chaired its inauguration in April 1852. It was the Institute of the Congregation Board of Education. He became treasurer to a fund to finance Hosiah Henson, an escaped American slave who was given support in Britain. Rebeka Hope became his wife. Their eldest son Samuel, became Governor of the Bank of England, and was elevated to the peerage as Baron Hollenden in 1912. Their youngest son was the Liberal politician Arnold Morley. There is a statue of Samuel Morley in Bristol, and a 2nd memorial above his place of internment in Dr Watts’ Walk, , Stoke Newington. Also, a bust can be found at the entrance to The Arboretum, Nottingham. A Primitive Methodist Chapel was erected in 1889 in Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham, and named in his memory as the Morley Memorial Chapel. From information gathered by Ron Hurlow.
