Darcy created a great sentence for the class book Hugh – For working hard on his handwriting and always taking on advice with a positive attitude Jodi – For consistently displaying a ‘personal best’ attitude with her learning Georgia – For working hard in class to identify prime and composite numbers and identifying factors SCHOOL VALUE AWARD WINNERS Logan – For always putting others before himself and showing a caring attitude to all classmates Cody Gutsell – For being a friendly and caring member of the classroom Sam L – For being organised and showing respect to those around her Laura – For demonstrating fairness and excellent sportsmanship at the Regional Netball Carnival GOLDEN BRUSH Winners of the Golden Brush this week were Grade One. HOUSE TROPHY Winners of the House Trophy this week were Campaspe 2 ½ rooms to 1 ½. SPELLING AND READING AWARD WINNERS Well done to our spelling and reading award winners for this week. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT WRITING SUCCESS As part of the Bendigo Writer’s Festival in August, Gr. 4/5/6 students were provided the opportunity to write a piece about ‘My Place’, a reflection on a special place in their lives. All of our students have been awarded a Participation Certificate with five of our young writers being chosen to have their work published in a book as part of the festival. Congratulations to Will, Georgie, Laura, Angus and Anthony for their selection in this program. BENDIGO KIWANIS TERRIFIC KIDS PROGRAM At the end of each term, the Bendigo Kiwanis Club present an award to a student who has shown an excellent attitude to their work, their friends and their school throughout the term. For Term Two, the nominations for each class were Kaiya Mulqueen, Darcy Banks,, Meg White and Lilly Czuczman. Congratulations to all four students for an excellent term of work. Congratulations to Kaiya Mulqueen who was announced as the recipient of the ward at the end of Term One assembly. GRANT PRESENTATION Also at our end of term assembly, Shane Koelmeyer and Graeme Willis from the Victorian Teachers Mutual Bank visited our school to present our School Captains Laura and Zayne and our Environmental Education staff with a cheque for $2,000. We were successful in applying for grant with our ‘From Seed to Plate’ application. The ‘From Seed to Plate’ grant funding will allow us to relocate and expand our existing vege patch area to encompass a range of raised vege beds, an orchard area, worm farms, a three bay compost system, greenhouse and chook house. We are very appreciative of the funding and thank Lydia, Jeanette and Gaye for their work on the application and submission. REGIONAL BOYS AND GIRLS FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS THE FOOTBALL GAME “Off the ground –Violet St. kick”. No goal. Yes- Jaidyn kick-mark! “Zayne go for it”, yelled William Mannes from Eppalock. “Pass it” called Jaidyn. “I’ve got it” called Zayne. Goal! Great job boys. It was Wednesday the 20th and we were at the 2016 Football Carnival. I played full back, full forward and in the midfield and I didn’t get to be on the bench which was exhausting for me. We made it into the finals against Violet St. and we lost by 34 vs 25. Including the Grand Final, we won 4, lost 2 and drew none. We played in Division 2 in the Boys Section. I had a 9/10 day. The best bit for me was getting a goal with a snap from the boundary line on my left foot. By Anthony “Get……… off…….. me…………”, I hear an opposition player say to me. “No way!” Tweet! Ball up I hear the umpire say. “Yes Laura!” – I shepherded them away from Laura and suddenly she is tackled and bumped in the head again. It is Tuesday 19th of July and I am at the football with our Axedale girls team and I am the muddiest. Tweet! Tweet! The whistle goes again. “Half time”, I hear the umpire say. We go and get a drink. “That was hard”, I say. “But they are all Grade 6’s”, Mr. C tells us. “Della’s marks were great”, I hear Lilly say. “Yes they were, they stopped two goals”, Emma cries out. We all run back onto the field to our position. Emily is in the ruck. Six minutes later –tweet! The game is over. “So we won one game, we drew one and lost five?”, I asked Mr. C on the way back. “Yes”, Mr.C replied. “Well we did really well!” I say. I had a ball! The end By Montana DENTAL The school is again partnering with Bendigo Health to facilitate Dental Screening Checks at the school. This was a particularly successful program last year and provided a cost free way of ensuring children had good dental health. The dental screening for the students will be on the Thursday 11th and Friday 12th of August. A copy of the consent form and program flyer is attached to the Newsletter. Forms need to be returned by Friday 5th of August for collection by Bendigo Health. PREPS TO THE BUSH KINDER On Wednesday 27th July at 11.30, the Prep students will be walking to the Drake St. Church Axedale to meet up with our kinder friends at their Bush Kinder. We will have a session with Veronica from the Koori Pre-School Association group and then a picnic lunch. Students will need a cut lunch, drinks and wet weather gear just in case. Thanks to Tanya from the Kinder for organising this combined activity. MUSIC IS FUN On Friday July 29th, our whole school will be travelling to Marong PS to take part in the Music is Fun concert. As it is a whole school excursion, we will need the school bus plus 2-4 private vehicles to assist with transport. we will be leaving at approximately 12.30 and returning in time for home time. If you are able to assist, please contact the school. Your vehicle must be currently registered and have full comprehensive and third party insurance. Please contact Mr. J if you can help NEW SCHOOL APP It has been great to see a high level of support for the new school app. Feedback on the app is always appreciated. See further on for more details. PROGRESSIVE DINNER Only six weeks until our famous Progressive Dinner fundraiser is on again. Lock in Saturday night, August 20th into the calendar, $60per person. More details in coming weeks. JUMP ROPE FOR HEART Every two years we take part in Jump Rope for Heart to raise money for the National Heart Foundation. Our Jump Off this year will take place on Friday September 2nd Students will be practising their skipping and developing lots of new skills and fitness over the next few weeks in their Phys. Ed classes. Sponsorship forms will be sent out with the August 4th Newsletter. Our aim is for everyone to raise a little bit so that our school can make a contribution to the National Heart Foundation. GUITAR LESSONS Just a reminder for the guitar students who went to Football yesterday to bring their guitars on Friday. Guitar lessons are now held on Wednesday with the ukulele sessions on Fridays. Any queries to Jo Woodward – 0417374834 or email [email protected] NATIONAL SCHOOLS TREE PLANTING DAY On Thursday July 28th, all of our students will be taking part in National Tree Day planting activities. In the morning, our Prep/1 students will be planting 80 native shrubs and bushes along our western boundary and in the afternoon, our Gr 2-6 students will be working with staff from the North Central Catchment Management Authority (NCCMA) to plant hundreds of trees on the Campaspe River Reserve, on the north side of the bridge. AXEDALE COMMUNITY TREE PLANTING DAY It’s National Tree Day on Sunday 31 July 2016 and Axedale Our Town - Our Future is joining the Longlea & District Landcare Group to take part in a National Tree Day event, which will incorporate an O’Keefe Rail Trail rubbish clean up at the Axedale River Reserve. We invite all friends, family and visitors to join us and pitch in to continue making our town beautiful. The event will commence at 10am for the tree planting on the northern section (accessed by Campaspe Drive) of the Axedale River Reserve. Bring your gloves and a hand tool and be rewarded with a free BBQ provided by the Landcare group beside the Campaspe River. After lunch from 12.30pm-2pm we will be cleaning up a section of the nearby O’Keefe Rail Trail. Meet us at BBQ site and we’ll follow the Trail across the river together to target the 800m section along Ingham Rd. Hope to see many of you there! SCHOOL CAMPS Our Grade 1/2 Camp to the Axedale Rotary Camp will take place on September 8th & 9th. Our aim is for Grade 2’s to attend the camp, including an overnight stay. Grade 1 students will join us for both days, taking part in a range of activities with the Grade 2’s.
