1 Our Lady of Perpetual Help (June 18th, 2018) Part II: Liturgy of the Eucharist and Concluding Rite Introduction: Below you will find a detailed explanation of Part II: Liturgy of the Eucharist and Concluding Rite of the Mass, to assist you in learning more about the Mass and the changes that have occurred with the implementation of the third edition of the Roman Missal since Advent of 2011. This explanation was written by Fr. Victor De Gagné, The Prayer Intentions concludes the Liturgy of the Word and the focus of the Mass now shifts to the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Liturgy of the Eucharist: -The Collection & the Offering of the Gifts The collection and the offering of the bread and wine have been present in Christian worship since the very beginning. The gifts of the community are presented to the priest for the needs of the Church and of the poor. Justin the Martyr describes this collection and offering of gifts in his letter dating from the 2nd century: “Then someone brings bread and wine to him who presides over the assembly. They who have the means, give freely what they wish; and what is collected is placed in reserve with the presider, who provides help to the orphans, widows, and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in need, and prisoners, and traveling strangers; in a word, he takes care of all who are in need.” By the collection, we exercise Christian charity; sharing our blessings with those who have nothing. -The Preparation of the Gifts Once the gifts of bread and wine have been carried to the altar, the priest offers a prayer of blessing to God for his generosity, for the produce of the earth and for human labour which have created the gifts to be used for the Eucharist. -

In such a case, the majority stockholders' determination is entitled to a presumption of good faith.6' Although the courts almost always review the reasonableness of a pension as determinative of whether a pension plan is valid, this consider- ation is not always germane to the issue. In the Fogelson case, the largest pension other than the president's was $7,285. Obviously, the formula under the plan as applied to the salaries of lower paid employees resulted in a reasonable pension, and no objection was made. Thus, the only cause for the unreasonableness of the president's pension, if it was unrea- sonable, was that his salary was excessive before the plan was adopted. -

The news S accounts have been concerned with the radical changes, the upset of traditional practices, and the technical details of the re stored Holy Week services, but the real issue in the reform is the development of true holiness in the members of Christ's Church. This is the expectation of Pope Pius XII, as expressed personally by him. It is insisted upon repeatedly in the official language of the new laws - the goal is simple: that the faithful may take part in the most sacred week of the year "more easily, more devoutly, and more fruitfully." Certainly the changes now commanded ,by the Apostolic See are extraordinary, particularly since they come after nearly four centuries of little liturgical development. This is especially true of the different times set for the principal services. On Holy Thursday the solemn evening Mass now becomes a clearer and more evident memorial of the Last Supper of the Lord on the night before He suffered. On Good Friday, when Holy Mass is not offered, the liturgical service is placed at three o'clock in the afternoon, or later, since three o'clock is the "ninth hour" of the Gospel accounts of our Lord's Crucifixion. -

The Mass In Slow Motion Volumes — 7 and 8 The Penitential Rite & The Kyrie The Mass In Slow Motion is a series on the Mass explaining the meaning and history of what we do each Sunday. This series of flyers is an attempt to add insight and understanding to our celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. You are also invited to learn more by attending Sunday School classes for adults which take place in the school cafeteria each Sunday from 9:45 am. to 10:45 am. This series will follow the Mass in order. The Penitential Rite in general—Let us recall that we have just acknowledged and celebrated the presence of Christ among us. First we welcomed him as he walked the aisle of our Church, represented by the Priest Celebrant. The altar, another sign and symbol of Christ was then reverenced. Coming to the chair, a symbol of a share in the teaching and governing authority of Christ, the priest then announced the presence of Christ among us in the liturgical greeting. Now, in the Bible, whenever there was a direct experience of God, there was almost always an experience of unworthiness, and even a falling to the ground! Isaiah lamented his sinfulness and needed to be reassured by the angel (Is 6:5). Ezekiel fell to his face before God (Ez. 2:1). Daniel experienced anguish and terror (Dan 7:15). Job was silenced before God and repented (42:6); John the Apostle fell to his face before the glorified and ascended Jesus (Rev 1:17). Further, the Book of Hebrews says that we must strive for the holiness without which none shall see the Lord (Heb. -

1 LET US PRAY – REFLECTIONS ON THE EUCHARIST Fr. Roger G. O’Brien, Senior Priest, Archdiocese of Seattle During this Year of the Eucharist, I offer a series of articles on Eucharistic Spirituality: Source of Life and Mission of our Church. Article #1, How We Name Eucharist. Let me make two initial remarks: one on how, in our long tradition, we have named the eucharist, and the other on eucharistic spirituality. We’ve given the eucharist a variety of names, in our church’s practice and tradition. The New Testament called it the Lord’s Supper (Paul so names it in 1 Cor. 11:20); and also the Breaking of the Bread (by Luke, in Acts 2:42,46). Later, a Greek designation was given it, Anamnesis, meaning “remembrance”. It is the remembrance, the memorial of the Lord, in which we actually participate in his dying and rising. Sometimes, it was called simply Communion, underscoring the unity we have with Jesus and one another when we eat the bread and drink the cup (1 Cor. 10:16). We speak of “doing eucharist” together because, in doing it, we have communion with the Lord and one another. Anglicans still use this name, today, to refer to the Lord’s Supper. We call it Eucharist – meaning “thanksgiving” (from the Greek, eucharistein, “to give thanks”). Jesus gave thanks at the Last Supper. And we do so. When we come together to be nourished in word and sacrament, we give thanks for Jesus’ dying and rising. It was also called Sacrifice. Early christian writers spoke of Jesus’ Sacrifice (also calling it his Offering), which was not only a gift received but also the gift whereby we approach God.
